Alabama Crimson Tide football coach Nick Saban said his football team worked on kick coverage after the difficulties Alabama faced in the Ole Miss game.

“It was something we really emphasized that is for sure,” Saban said. “We are working hard at. Everybody on the coverage team needs to understand they have to do their job.”

Saban said Alabama “did not do a good job inside out last week.” Saban said side returns exploited this problem.

“I think our players are aware of it, and I think they are working hard to try to get it corrected,” Alabama football coach Nick Saban said. “This is something that has been pretty good for us.”

Another goal for Alabama’s special teams is to get deeper, more consistent kickoffs. Saban said he wants this “down inside the five-yard line.” Saban said the team is capable of kicking touchbacks. This also influences the kick coverage.

“All of those are issues we need to improve on and are things we worked hard on this week,” Saban said. “I think we made some improvement on.”

  1. I feel they need to work on punts as well! The great “Bear Bryant” always stressed this point in his weekly tv show.

  2. “Another goal for Alabama’s special teams is to get deeper, more consistent kickoffs.

another goal??? excuse me, Coach, that should be THE goal.

our inability to kick deep (preferably into the endzone) directly affects our ability to cover kicks. we couldn’t “kick away” from somebody (recall the last time we tried this: we kicked it out-of-bounds and were penalized to the 35 yd. line) if a gun was held at the kickers head.

and don’t get me started on our punter.

“Saban said he wants this “down inside the five-yard line.”

well Coach, that’s an admirable goal. (sarc/off)

“Saban said the team is capable of kicking touchbacks.”

really?! well call me from………….ahhhh………..Missouri, Coach.

    show me.

(this begs the question: is our kickoff team being TOLD not to kick into the endzone???)

“This also influences the kick coverage.”

    duh!

yes. i’m old enough to remember Coach Bryant vividly. He emphasized kicking because he knew the direct effect one could have on field position.

and the difference between driving a 45 to 50 yd. field and a 75 to 85 yd. field can be the difference between winning and losing against a good team.

and folks love to talk smack here but the fact is lsu’s a good team.

we have a great defense but we’ve got to stop putting them in bad positions and asking them to bail us out!

  3. I said this more than a month ago and will say it again. I watched clips of all these young men in high school and at camps kick the hell out that pigskin. I just don’t understand what happened to them once they got to Tuscaloosa. Anyone have a clue? Coaching maybe ? What ? There has to be a reason. RTR
