LSU FOOTBALL POSTGAME NOTES LSU vs. Florida Oct. 8, 2011 – Tiger Stadium (Baton Rouge, La.)

Team Notes
LSU’s game captains were 72 Alex Hurst, 30 James Hairston, 88 Chase Clement, 50 Joey Crappell, 99 Sam Montgomery and 7 Tyrann Mathieu.

LSU won the toss and deferred to the second half. Florida will receive the opening kickoff.

LSU’s 30-point win today is the largest margin of victory against Florida since a 48-7 victory in Baton Rouge on Oct. 9, 1971.

LSU has held its opponents scoreless in now 17 of 24 quarters this season and the Tigers have also held opponents without a touchdown in 17 of 24 quarters of action this season.

LSU improved to 16-3 all-time in games played as the No. 1 ranked team, including a 4-2 mark under Les Miles.

LSU improved to 20-13 in day games under Les Miles. The Tigers are 48-4 in night games.

LSU has now won 14 straight games in Tiger Stadium, dating back to 2009 when the Tigers lost 13-3 to Florida.

LSU has won 15 straight games when winning the turnover battle as Florida committed two turnovers to LSU’s none. Under Les Miles, LSU is 31-4 when forcing more turnovers than they give up.

Today’s attendance of 93,022 is the third-largest in the history of Tiger Stadium. Two of LSU’s three largest crowds have come against Florida as a school-record 93,129 witnessed the Tigers and Gators on Oct. 10, 2009.

With Spencer Ware rushing for 109 yards, LSU improved to 24-2 under Les Miles when a running back reaches 100 yards in a game. LSU has won 10 straight games in which a player rushes for 100 or more yards.

LSU is bowl eligible for the 12th straight season. The last time LSU was not bowl eligible was 1999.

Florida became the first team to eclipse 100 total rushing yards against LSU. The Gators finished with 113, and the previous best was 95 by Oregon.

FLORIDA TEAM NOTES
Despite LSU’s second-straight win over Florida, the Gators lead the overall series, 30-25-3, and have a 16-14 edge in Baton Rouge.

Florida fell to 3-9 (.250) in school history when facing the top-ranked team in the Associated Press poll.

The Gators are now 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the SEC, LSU is 6-0 and 3-0 in league play.

  1. Its easy to see why LSU won. I was coaching auburn that day. If I would have been playing weda won it! And that is definately a God Thing.
