Wide receiver Amari Cooper announced his verbal commitment to the University of Alabama. Cooper announced his commitment on ESPNU during a broadcast of its Recruiting Nation program.
Cooper picked Alabama because, “I felt like it was the best choice for me,” he said. “I felt like the opportunities there were great.”
Cooper was also impressed with Tuscaloosa.
“It was one of the best campuses that I visited,” Amari Cooper said. “I just feel good about it.”
Cooper said the recruiting experience was exciting.
ESPNU noted Amari Cooper is an Under Armour All-American.
Cooper hails from Miami’s Northwestern High School. This is the second big receiver commitment for Alabama’s 2011 class to come from the state of Florida. This has the chance to be a special class at wide receiver for the Alabama Crimson Tide and football coach Nick Saban.
According to Scout, Amari Cooper is a four-star prospect who stands 6’2″ and weighs 185 lbs. Cooper is four-star receiver on Rivals, and is ranked as the seventh best receiver in this recruiting class.

I suppose Saban knows what he’s doing. But I don’t understand why he accepted so many 3 stars and did it so early. We have few 4 stars, no 5 stars and nearly a full class. We are ranked #5 but there are several teams right on our azz and they have less commitments than us. We’re in real danger of ending up out of the top 5 for the first time since the ’07 class. Strange.
One thing Saban does better than anyone else is recruits for what we need, not for rankings, and not just for the number of stars a kid has….Texas consistantly has a top class and look what they have done this season and last…its not just about getting the big names, its about getting the guys that fit our system and will help us win games…and believe me, were still in the mix for all if not most of the remaining 5* recruits…there are alot of players whos rankings and value will go up after the all-american game and different camps and things like that…don’t forget, Mark Ingram was a 3* recruit and we know how he turned out…trust in Saban and the other coaches,,,they know what they are doing….
