Alabama Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said his players were ready to hit someone else—so are glad Fall Camp has ended and the first game of the season is near. Saban said he and his players are looking forward to getting the season started. However, Saban warned that Kent State offers some challenges.

“First games are always about having the mindset of taking care of business and paying attention to detail and playing with discipline, effort and toughness,” Alabama football coach Nick Saban.

Saban said the Kent State team is “a very experienced team with lots of starters” coming back.

“It is going to be a challenging first game,” Alabama’s coach said.

One player to watch in the opening game is offensive lineman Barrett Jones.

Saban said that Barrett Jones “has played a lot of good football here for us at right guard.” The Crimson Tide football staff expanded Jones’ role during the offseason and the offensive lineman has played left tackle and some backup center in addition to the guard position. Saban said Jones is a leader for this team.

“We are certainly pleased with every aspect of what he has done not only as a football player but as a person,” Alabama football coach Nick Saban said.

Jones has done a good job at left tackle, according to Saban. However, if Cyrus Kouandjio continues to improve then Jones could move back to guard “at some point in time.”

“(Barrett Jones) is a unique guy that can manage a lot of different things because of his intelligence and experience,” Saban said. “It is great to have a guy that has that kind of flexibility as a player.”
