Will the Alabama Crimson Tide face Virginia Tech Hokies in a rematch of the memorable 2009 Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game? According to this report by Kyle Tucker this is possible. Tucker reports, “Tech athletic director Jim Weaver confirmed Friday that he is in negotiations for a potential rematch between the Hokies and Alabama in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff to start the 2013 season, which would be broadcast nationally on ESPN.”

“There’s some potential to it,” Weaver told Tucker. “It’s nothing that’s set in stone. The executive director of the Chick-fil-A Bowl, Gary Stokan, approached us.”

The Alabama Crimson Tide continues to schedule some interesting out-of-conference games. The 2011 Alabama football schedule features traditional powerhouse Penn State. These games have been important for the football program and fans.

So, is this a something fans want to see? Or would you prefer a different opponent?

  1. I would like to see a different opponent. Notre Dame, USC, Michigan or schools like that. Someone who has tradition and history like Bama through the ages. Regionally, I think a kickoff classic with Bama and Miami or GA Tech would be cool.

  2. I wouldn’t mind kicking their butts again. But it is a little self serving of me since I now live in VA.
    I enjoy hearing Hokies brag about how they’re gonna kick our asses, then enjoy the silence in the office when I get back to work. 🙂

  3. Personally I would hope for a different opponent, but oh well. The draw of that game is facing an uncommon foe. What advantage do we have of facing them again?

  4. I would rather see us face Fl St. or Miami…

    Clemson -> Check
    Va Tech -> Check
    All the rest -> Check

  5. Not to be snooty, but is Virginia Tech really even the same level as the Tide?

    I agree that I’d like to see the Tide open against a team like Texas, Miami, or Florida State.

  6. I find it amusing that people here are saying they’d rather face a team like Miami or FSU when they have been far inferior to VT in the recent years. Also, if I remember correctly, Saban himself said VT was one of the most physicals teams they played all year. Personally, I’d love to see a rematch. It would be a good game, much more competitive than vs Miami or GT, and possible than FSU as well.

  7. Kent State
    Georgia Southern
    You have got to be f%cking kidding me. A total joke and travesty.
    Here is your new law. Any future non- conference teams – must be from the State of Alabama.
    Auburn too. If we are going to practice welfare – then by God – let’s start at Home.

  8. Nobody is talking about who is tougher or who has been better in recent years fool. We’re talking about a special game with extremely high fan interest nationally. USC, Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Penn State and even Miami and Florida State. Those are games people want to see and the games that would bring in most $. I like VT, but we just beat the hell out what was supposed to have been their best team ever and fan wise on a national level the name Hokies just doesn’t cause a hard-on. Know what I mean? RTR!

  9. Pluto, don’t have a problem with what you’re saying as long as it doesn’t include uab.

    Also don’t have a problem playing va tech again. I attended the bowl game in Nashville when we played them. Haven’t forgot those fans. Pound them every chance you get.
