The NCAA troubles at the University of Tennessee claimed the men’s basketball coach. According to a report from the Times Free Press, “The University of Tennessee has fired men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl, multiple outlets have reported. Pearl, who led the Vols to a program-record six consecutive NCAA trips, lied to NCAA investigators about recruiting violations.”
The Volunteers have faced intense NCAA scrutiny of basketball and football programs. In no small part the NCAA was encouraged to examine the Volunteer program thanks to the big mouth and crazy antics of former Volunteer football coach Lane Kiffin. Of course, Kiffin fled Knoxville and the Tennessee program for a sunnier location out west.
With so many problems in the athletic department, we are forced to wonder how Mike Hamilton keeps his job. If he had any decency, he would have long ago resigned for the disgrace he brought to Knoxville.
