REPORT from FANHOUSE: “In its investigation, the NCAA has determined that Reaves, then an assistant coach at Tennessee, made improper contact with recruits as well as providing written and oral instruction to the Vol hostesses about which top recruits to contact, how to contact them, and asked for updates on those conversations, which occurred either via Facebook, text message or phone call. The hostesses were also urged to inquire as to how official visits to other schools went and to make sure that recruits remained committed to the Vols. According to the NCAA these contacts were improper and amounted to a failure to monitor on the part of the football program.”

I don’t understand. When auburn won 6 in a row, you guys said it didn’t count because bama was down due to NCAA sanctions. Now all of a sudden, you’re telling me the sanctions and cause of the sanctions (uh… Cheating) wasn’t really a big deal.
No 47, the six in a row count. Auburn won them on the field, and Bama got their own selves into the trouble. Sure Bama was depleted, but it was still competitive for the most part. Tubbs was a better coach than Shula. No doubt there. But it doesn’t beat the 9 in a row that Bama has on Auburn. But of course, Auburn doesn’t want to count anything before 1980. There is not two histories of college football. But you do realize that the investigation into AUBURN football, that is real, and it is still going on. They work on their own timetable, and when you have characters like Lowder, the casino guy and such as being big boosters, don’t be surprised that the NCAA doesn’t come up with something that’s not even related to Cam. So, when Auburn is on probation, there will be no excuses, right?

The thing is, like UT is finding out two years later, these NCAA investigations can take a while. Auburn can whistle and turn their heads and that all they want, but nobody wants the NCAA spending two years going through the athletic programs of their schools business with a fine-toothed comb. We, as Bama fans have experienced it also. There is also a situation in Arkansas with a recruiting service that has ties with Malzahn. If a lot of these weird situations keep popping up at Auburn, and Auburn continuing to blatantly have secondary violations, Auburn could be hit with the failure to monitor situation too. But the Auburn homers here are just too dumb to consider that as a possibility.

Believe me, every AU fan knows there is an investigation still going and have “considered” what COULD happen if NEW evidence is uncovered. But all the years of hearing all the Auburn conspiracy theories about Bama, well, when your team is under investigation right now, it just makes you guys look like you put your foot in your mouth. But, you do have to agree that if these situations keep on going with an Auburn recruit, something is going to happen. Right now, all you can do is hope nothing illegal has happened. But it seems like when the NCAA gets going, they usually don’t stop until they find something. Look at FSU, Bama, USC, UT and now Auburn. Maybe they find nothing. But they haven’t left the building yet, and the longer this goes on the more the chances they find something increase. And you know that they can find something at just about every successful program. And who just won the National Championship. Just don’t think your program is the cleanest around, and that you are immune to NCAA sanctions.

For the record, I think there is a movement in AU message boards (at least the boards I visit) to squash talk of Bama cheating/possible sanctions unless the poster has some sort of evidence. It’s not slways the case, but they are getting better. Personally, I’d love to see both programs continue to be power houses… Sure makes the iron bowl more fun. Bragging rights arent as fun when one team is clearly not up to par.

47, not trying to be biased about the NCAA investigation at all. But you are right. I think it is great when both in-state schools are doing well. Make both schools stay on their toes and push each other to greater heights. Makes the rivalry actually mean something. I have no problem saying that Auburn is doing well when they are. But I also think that Bama is a few years ahead in terms of coaching and recruiting. Next season, Auburn will struggle somewhat. The expectations and reality is somewhat confusing a lot of the Auburn fans. Bama is more stabilized with depth, and Auburn is desperately in need of some. This could be a back and forth thing with Bama and Auburn for years to come. But next year favors Bama.
