Looking at the 2011 season, Auburn fans may want to hold the phone on making reservations in Atlanta or New Orleans.

Heck, Shreveport may even be a stretch.

Phil Steele offers an interesting look at teams who lost more than anyone else in college football. The team that lost the most? You guessed it.

Among 120 FCS (Division 1) football schools, Auburn ranks dead last…#120 out of 120…in the number of starters returning for next season.

In fact, with only seven starters returning, Auburn has three less than their nearest competitors (Hawaii, Iowa and TCU, all with 10).

Here’s a breakdown of the SEC’s returning offensive, defensive and special teams starters, as well as which teams’ starting quarterbacks return:

Make what you will of the numbers. For instance, how many of Vandy’s starters are better than the back-ups Florida has moving in? And some of the “national” data could be considered bogus. The only reason Bama is 16 and not 26 is alphabetical with the number of teams with 17 starters returning.

But in a snapshot, you can see the teams who are poised to be destructive in 2011, and those who are likely to struggle.

With the dead season about to be upon us, there’ll be plenty of time for analysis before 2011 kicks off. But it’ll be interesting to see how the Gus Malzahn dipsy-doo, trickeroo offense manages with a green QB and only three returning starters around him. His record without a lightening-in-a-bottle-QB is 7-5.

If I were a Tiger, I wouldn’t make bowl plans.

  1. ITK,

With this post, you now officially when the Bama Fan Most Obsessed with Auburn award. Of the last 19 “articles” posted by you, 74 percent were about Auburn. Said another way, only 25 percent of the garbage you post is about Bama.

Now, please explain to me how we are Auburn fans have a complex and are obsessed with bama. LOL!!!!!!!

  2. au is a one time stinky stench for now can’t ignore it and many noobies do not know the historic skanks the au is – so it education of a generation

  3. tider insider – bama gets cyrus k calloway fanning fo sho …very good clowney crowell pagan brassell

  4. WAIT FOR IT

Just wanted to update the Miss. St/ Auburn situation a little. The New York Times is working on a piece that will be published as soon as Friday but more likely on Sunday that will release some information regarding the investigation by the State of Mississippi into the Cameron Newton/ Cecil Newton/ Rogers scheme. This is ontop of information that was previously expected to be released today in federal court but has been delayed until early next week. The article and investigative report will reflect some very disturbing issues that have become common practice at a few institutions and with the other investigations going on have opened the situation to the core. There will be multiple indictments related to recruiting, and this is not just at Auburn and will cause the SEC commissioner to move forward with his request to the NCAA that any signee or Senior players to automatically released without penalty from their respective schools.

    Just wait for it.

  5. TOLD YA SO – ALL BUT OFFICIAL….

CALLOWAY CLOWNEY KOUJO CROWELL ROLL TIDERS

    JENKINS PAGAN = GA BULLDOGS

  6. Obsessed? Call it what you want. We are reporting the news relative to the States two largest institutions and back to back National Champions. Of course the readers here are interested in the latest info or gossip about the Lee County Skanks. If for no other reason than because Troy and Jax St don’t play in our division of the SEC. Bwaa Haww Haww! But ‘WE’ are not posting on a Skank web site 10 to 15 times a day! We are interested in reading about and commenting on among ourselves what our reporters have to say about Skank football. ‘WE’ are not carrying the flag to ‘YOUR’ world. Dumbasses! But by all means, stay here. Your hits finance CR’s happy hours at Chili’s and give us the opportunity to rag some Skank arse. RTR!

  7. Oh and by the way, here are the latest recruiting services rankings less Scout.com whose rankings are bogus. ESPN/Scout.inc – Bama #3 with 21 commitments. Awbie #8 with 22 commitments. Rivals – Bama #1 with 21 commitments Awbie #6 with 23 commitments. In reality the gap is widening since Awbie has only gained a couple of spots while commiting 4 more recruits than Bama has during the past week. read it and weep Barnfarts. RTR!

  8. I have been saying the same thing. Notice at how quick all the Auburn homers turn their heads at this. It is a real issue for next season, and they think the surprises just keep on coming. With a veteran team last season, they squeaked by close to half of their games. Had to rally and come from behind an awful lot. Cam’s knack for leading his team back in the fourth quarter was what Auburn lived on for the most part. And the hopes that Farley would cheap shot a QB out of the game or something. But all those veterans are gone, and Auburn fans think Malzahn can just work wonders, even with a totally inexperienced team. After all, god is on their side, and Chiznik doesn’t cuss.

  9. Crimsonite, for what it’s worth, Troy returns 14 starters, including 8 on defense. Twice as many as Abarn.

In a weird way, 2010 may be the best thing that’s happened to Bama football in decades, because AU’s success* led them to believe they have something down there. Now they are stuck with a 4-5 loss per year coaching staff, much like LSU is stuck with Miles. — I love it.

Brando, something tells me God’s name is gonna be used ALOT on the Auburn sidelines next season, and beyond.

  10. Those of you waiting on the FBI’s Cam Newton division to burn Auburn’s campus down to the ground, hold your breath…please.

  11. We won’t have to wait on NCAA investigation results, but you do. We are talking about who has what coming back next season, and your team isn’t bringing much, and compared to what Bama is bringing back, your in-state success is in danger of being very short-lived. Once the losing starts, you guys will turn on each other, and likely have to suffer through this season watching Bama steal your thunder from this past season.

  12. I love how you guys think Auburn fans are going to go ballistic if we loose some games next year, when actually AU fan that I have talked to expects it. We won’t “turn on each other”… That’s a bama thing.

I think it’s comical that all of a sudden Scout’s rankings are bogus. Lol!!! Didn’t you argue last year that AU’s higher ranked class by rivals didn’t mean anything because 2/3 of the most respected recruiting services had bama higher? Before tomorrow, would someone please tell me which recruiting rankings we should pay attention to? Lol!!!!

  13. “Some games?”

47, you’re looking at a solid 4-8 next year as the NCAA cloud rolls into Lee County, casting doubt over your next decade.

    Sucks to be you.

  14. ITK and his merry men wimps, just wishing and hoping that Auburn doesn’t win many games this year. We all know what Auburn can do with less talent. ALL WE DO IS BEAT BAMA!I FOUND OUT SOMETHING NEW TODAY, ITK YOU PROBABLY ALREADY KNEW THIS, BUT I DID NOT KNOW THAT THE TERM CRIMSON TIDE WAS TAKEN FROM A WOMAN’S MONTHLY MENSTURAL CYCLE!

  15. ITK, what happen to McElroy ,yall had him pumped up to be the next Joe Namath, but turned out to be a dud like you!

  16. The past several years all 3 recruiting services have been very close to the same, and we dissed Rivals last year because they were the only one that you managed to jump us in after the 5* whats his name switched to California like 2 days before signing to be with his big brother. This year is a completely different scenario. Scout.com is so completely out of line with all the other services that it is absurd. It’s like they are rating athletes from a different planet. With everybody else on the same page you have to throw out the odd man. I didn’t tell the phuckers to rate like they were stoned on bad Acid. RTR!

  17. Reaves, what you just posted was as weak as three day old p*ss. Another pitiful offering like that on this board and you’re banned.

  18. Crimsonite the only reason you don’t like Scout.com is because they don’t have Ala. no.1 Am i right or am i right? ITK bite me!

  19. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys have an excuse/rationale for EVERYTHING!! This is why I love visiting this site. I can always depend on you guys for a good laugh. So let me get this straight:
    1. Bama has been on probation 17 of the last 20 years, is currently on probation, but somehow it doesn’t really count (insert bama rationale). However, Auburn is cleared by the NCAA twice and there are ONLY lingering allegations with no
evidence, and they are the poster boy for
    cheating. LOL!!!!
    2. Bama’s recruiting classes are highly ranked by
rivals but not as high by espn, so we are all told
rivals is the ranking to pay attention to. Yet, when Auburn’s class is ranked higher last year, all of a sudden we have to look at the other recruiting services. But the rules apparently change again this year, because it seems as though Scout has just this year stopped being a valid indicator of class strength. Nevermind the fact that it us coincidentally the service that has AU’s class ranked above bama.
    3. How about bama claiming multiple retroactive national championships (fact). Apparently, when bama decides to claim a past NC that was not awarded at the time (including when they did not even when the sec), it’s justified. However, when there was talk that Auburn might be retrospectively awarded the 2004 NC, bama fans proclaimed it was ridiculous. I still haven’t heard there rationale on that one.
    4. My absolute favorite: bama fans like to argue that Auburn’s dominance of bama the last decade doesn’t really count because bama was down. Of course it shouldn’t count, according to them, because bama was weak due to NCAA sanctions (for cheating – see previous point) and they had a bad coaching situation. Ok, by that logic, the bama win in 2008 is also meaningless right? After all, Auburn was mired in turmoil and fired their OC in the middle of the season. No, no, no… That was a display of dominance according to bama fans. What about last year when Auburn had 75 scholarship players and was breaking in an entire new staff? Shouldn’t that year not count as well, given bama logic? Apparently not. LOL!

So, before tomorrow is here, please let me know ahead of time what recruiting service to pay attention to.

  20. roberson calloway back to back flips – is the pending ny times article scaring the commits away

  21. every aubie croot should wait until next week after the ny times articles on au scam come out

  22. U STUPID IGNORANT SLUT – BAMA CLAIMS NO RETROACTIVE TITLES – THEY WERE CELEBRATEID AT THE TIME EVERY NEWSPAPER IN THE COUNTRY DECLARED THE ROSE BOWL CHAMPION AS A NATIONAL TITLE HOLDER WITH THE NON-BOWL EAST TEAMS IN THE MIX AS WELL…..

AUBIES AND NATIONAL TITLE TALK DOES NOT JIVE NOT UR STRENGTH

    AU 1 NATIONAL TITLE 1913
57 – THE OHIO STATE BUCKEYES
    10 – TCU HORNED FROGS

  23. I read somewhere why there was such a huge diff. in the sites rankings. Rivals ranks the top 20 commits. Scout averages the entire class. Espn is a little more tricky as they also factor in team needs. So reading between the lines Bama’s top 20 is a touch better then Auburn’s, But Auburn’s class is a touch better top to bottom. Bama has done a better job addressing needs so far. Thats why while auburn added 4 commits they only moved up a few points on rivals. One of the latest commits replaced a player in Auburns top 20 on rivals. Im sure this will attract garbage responses from several bammers here but this is my attempt at having a football conversation since thats what some of them claim this is what they want. We shall see.

  24. 47…

“Auburn is cleared by the NCAA twice and there are ONLY lingering allegations with no
    evidence…”

Getting a temporary stay on Cam’s immediate eligibility from the NCAA’s committee on eligibility based on what was publicly admissible THEN is NOT clearance from the infractions committee, you idiot.

You’re like a child playing on the beach as a tsunami approaches.

  25. Bottom line, 334, there’s an extremely good possibility that Alabama hauls in the #1 rated class in the land for the third year in the last four (according to most services).

THAT SAID…recruiting services in my humble opinion are a bunch of garbage. The best players are easy to spot, but then there are a ton of good ones that are hard to judge.

Javier Arenas wasn’t on anybody’s radar coming out of high school in Tampa, and I still think he was Bama’s MVP from their last National Championship.

  26. I agree with the “recruiting services in my humble opinion are a bunch of garbage.” due to the fact 99% of the guys rating the High School players never played a down of football period. They are nerds that sit behind a desk all day and pretend to be able tell the future. Its all about bragging rights and people on both sides enjoy doing it. I wish someone would go back and rate classes from 3 or 4 years ago and lets see how they work out then.

I disagree with the “Javier Arenas MVP”…I still say it should be Cody.

  27. Ahhhhh back to way it was in 2007 Auburn on top and Alabama fans with nothing but recruiting to keep them happy. God I love being an Auburn fan.

  28. So …Auburn only has 7 returning starters and will probably lose 3 games. I’ll take it.

Bama had 12 returning starters in 2010 and lost 3 games.

Why is this even an post?

  29. and a 10 yr probation to look forward to
but for au skank 15 minutes of shame is worth 100 yrs of shame

  30. lmao – 2007 before the Bear – Saban in his 2nd season to his 2nd to last season was 19 -4-0 vs the barngoats…..when Bear came in 07 – goats said oh sheet here we go again we better get payola iii rolling again which they did and they were right 36-0 26-21 Pure National Championship…Top recruiting and boom

  31. LMAO – CALLOWAY’S DAD WILL NOT LET BRENT GO TO SCHOOL TIL HE SIGNS WITH BAMA — WILL NOT LET HIS SON NEAR THE TRASHY EVIL SKANK AT AU AND GETTING NO MONEY – THE NEWTON CALLOWAY DIFFERENCE

  32. THE JAPS AND AUBIES CELEBRATED PEARL HARBOR THEN CAME HIROSHIMA AND THE NY TIMES

  34. 4-8? Please bet me money on this. I’ll bet you $500 that Auburn wins more than four games. I’m serious. Let’s trade information, get a witness and everything.

  35. i can’t see au winning 3 = utah state should blow thems out – au sucks as usual – back to dead last in sec see 09 and more

  36. fla president rant means one thing bama for the foreseeable future is miles ahead of fla

  37. Once again I’m able to come to this website to get a good laugh. In all of your articles stating that AU will soon find themselves on probation I have yet to see one shred of actual proof that the NCAA or anyone for that matter has anythg on AU except rumors. I do have to give you credit though ITK, you have taken full advantage of the fact that fans don’t need proof to bash their rivals and will blindly follow anyone who wants to take shots at the team they despise. Bravo. And, I will be the 1st to come here and congratulate you if AU is proved to have done something wrong bc/ if that does hAppen we all know that you have been withholding that proof until the day AU is punished bc you felt it was the right thing to do. We all know you have the goods an AU. It would be silly to think otherwise. It would also be silly to think that your hatred for everything AU has In some way hindered your ability to think rationally about this subject. While it could certainly be true that cam knew(And Iwouldn’t be completely surprised if he did) about his father actions, it’s going to be extremely hard for the NCAA to prove it unless one of the two decides to come forward and say they knew. And I would take a shot at greatest cfb in history roll tide poster for being a fool, but he does a good enough job of that on his own.

  38. Hey Dozier, what does that have to do with Auburn losing 18 starters? How many more top recruiting classes will Auburn have to get before they match Bama’s? Who cares if Auburn gets put on probation? That is for you to worry about, not me. I could care less. I can’t wait for the Iron Bowl rematch this year. Quit trolling Bama sites unless you want to talk some football, because you act like what Bama fans say about Auburn bothers you if you feel the need to come here and beat your chest.
