“It starts on the defensive end, and it was an outstanding effort in both halves,” said Alabama basketball coach Anthony Grant following Tuesday night’s win at home against the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Defense was the story of the night as Alabama held South Carolina to their lowest point total in six years. The Tide won the contest 57-47 at home in Coleman Coliseum following its road win in Starkville over Mississippi State.

The story in Starkville the previous game was offense, as the Tide ran away to 75-57 win at the Hump…a place where victories don’t come easy. But last night’s win came on a somewhat dismal shooting performance, where not a single 3-pointer was scored. Bama finished 0-3 beyond the arc.

But that didn’t bother Coach Grant. “I just looked at the stat sheet, and we only took three (treys) in the game. That’s even more impressive, to get a 10-point win in this league (without making a 3-pointer). It shows what kind of defense they played.”

Alabama (10-6, 2-0 SEC) travels to Arkansas Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. tip-off on the SEC Network and ESPN3.

  1. For sure. I’m shocked, floored, awed. This team has sucked the big one in OOC play where we always do better than in the SEC. I figured I wouldn’t even keep up with BB this year cause didn’t think we’d win a single SEC game. The next 4 games will really tell if this was a fluke or not which are Arkansas, Kentucky, Barnturds and LSU. By the previous 2 games standards, 3 of those games are winnable plus Kentucky is in TTown. If we could go 5-1 1/3 if the way through the SEC schedule that would be just, just, just unthinkable. RTR!
