AP: Asked about a series of recent-high profile cases involving college football players and improper contact with agents, Emmert wondered aloud about the possibility of allowing “interaction with agents in a way that’s aboveboard, monitored by institutions.”

Emmert made an analogy to doors opened for a college student who wants to be an accountant — summer internships, for example.

“But if a student comes to us and says, ‘I want to be a professional athlete,’ we immediately say, ‘Well, you can’t talk to anybody in that profession.’ I’m not sure that makes a lot of sense,” said Emmert, the former president of the University of Washington who took over as head of the NCAA last month.

Below is the entire report on what the NCAA president said about investigations (like the one now underway into the Cam Newton recruiting scandal), paying college players, and the BCS.

  1. The NCAA certainly didn’t have a problem asserting itself against Alabama in the Means’s case despite their lack of ability to subpoena, etc. Let’s hope they don’t start using excuses now.

  2. That’s for damn sure. The NCAA had very little hard evidence and or witnesses repeating what was said to them when they started on Means compared to what they do on Newton. In fact their case was running aground before the FBI stepped in. They best not start crawfishing on this bastard of a case. It seems like there is no end to the loose ends running around on this case. According to their own bylaws the NCAA already has enough to declare Newton ineligible. I think the only teason they haven’t is because they are looking for more culprits and more charges to make sure they cover everything before they drop the hammer. RTR!

  3. I hope that BCS championship money doesn’t play a role in this and affect decisions. Would the SEC have to pay back money if Auburn won the national title? If not, this is why eligibility issues should not be left up to the university alone.

  4. So right Crimsonite, they do have enough information already and now so does AU! Auburn continues (along with many Alabama media members) to sing the “we haven’t done anything wrong so that makes it all right” song, completely ignoring all else.

  5. U KNOW EMMERT HATES AU B/C SABAN AND EMMERT HATED AUBS FOR LIGHTING VICTORY CIGARS AT TIGER STADIUM

(1)Cam Newton: Unless he stands at a podium and flashes cash, he’s playing against Bama. However, his ineligibility is guaranteed. Auburn knows this, the SEC knows this, the NCAA knows this, and Cam (should) know this. This is the least of Auburn’s worries because,

    (2) Auburn is going down. Cam is essentially a diversion. Let me repeat myself again: CAM Is ESSENTIALLY A DIVERSION. There was a slush fund, and this fund was accessed by Auburn players through ATM cards. The paper trail will show this. The FBI is offering unbelievable deals for those who talk. Unfortunately, those in the know have to keep hush-hush while people are talking because this is a federal investigation, which is why

    (3) This has taken so long. It is a process, people. The NCAA and others are not just sitting on their thumbs. It’s like being in line at McDonald’s- no matter how fast you want to move, you have to wait on the folks in front of you. Auburn knows this, and the mood in the Barn offices is gloomy at best. There is concern over heavy, heavy penalties, including loss of SACS and the NCAA Death Penalty. However,

    (4) Auburn will not be given the Death Penalty, and it’s extremely unlikely that it will lose SACS. The Alabama legislature and governor are willing to do whatever it takes to keep Auburn open and funded. The last time Auburn was in trouble with SACS, the governor begged for them to be spared. That won’t work this time, but that is because the Alabama legislature is going to

    (5) Clean house at Auburn. The BOT will be made up of congressmen (if certain folks have their way), and no one other than academic deans will retain administrative positions. The state of Alabama, UAT, and the SEC NEED Auburn open, which is partly why

    (6) Auburn will (almost certainly) not receive the Death Penalty. This is the only part of my information that I wish I felt more comfortable about. There is talk among those in the NCAA office of TV blackouts, scholly reductions in the 50+ (over at least 4 years) range, limits on assistants, and a revocation of almost all recruiting rights. Monstrous fines will be levied as well. This brings me to my last point,

    (7) Most of the Auburn folks were grossly unaware of any of this. Chizik’s reputation is dead amongst many boosters and faculty. There was a meeting at an airport to discuss what everyone (boosters, admins, etc.) knew, and as the meeting went on, anger turned to fear, fear turned to rage, and rage turned into disbelief. It was during this meeting that possible implications on SACS was brought up, during which point near panic ensued. The Auburn folks are waiting on the hammer, when they should be preparing for the bomb.

So, take all of this with a grain of salt. Forget about all of this crap with “a big story coming in X days”- there is no timetable for this. Expect this to go slowly, and expect Auburn to finish its season with no NCAA/SEC intervention. Once again, I am passing along information that I trust- what you do with it is your choice

  8. I am done with this whole thing. Mark my words…Auburn University and Cam Newton (not Cecil) will come out of this without any probation, wrong doing, or elgibility issues. Go ahead and laugh but MARK MY WORDS. I have inside sources. Bye bye ladies; this is my last post on this site FOREVER!

  9. Excellent shite for brains. I think it was your first post too. Buenos dias and don’t let the door hit you in the arse. RTR!

  10. I really dont think that most aubs see the full picture here.
Anytime you have a guy who is under the gun for election tampering being associated with PFP. You have to really wonder. Why would the Feds even be asking Uncle Milty about Cam?
Of course an attorney will never admit anything. And of course the attorney willl emphatically and catagorically deny every thing under the sun.
But still? Why is Uncle Miltys attorney coming forward with the whole “nothing to do with it” shpeil. Meaning, why was it even necessary?
I dont think Joe auburn fan realizes anything but what the Auburn sympathetic press is telling him.

  11. Oh and one other thing Bear Crap, you’re a lier! You hate what you read on here and it makes you want to respond, and this is the only enemy site on the internet where YOU CAN respond and not get banned or censored! Yeah Tard, you’ll be back even if it’s under another name! Bama 42 – Barnie 24. Defense wins championships. We got one – you don’t! RTR!

  12. haha…ncaa comes out and tells bama posters they are all full of crap …… you rednecks really are inbreding too much and are in for a rightous beatdown on friday…..WDE

  13. Cum Shot For Brains, If you’re referring to the NCAA prez (who by the way is a personal friend of Saban’s) mentioning that you can’t go by internet blogs posting “where there’s smoke there’s fire”, and that “the NCAA is bound to uncovering evidence more substantial than that”; what’s your point moron? Don’t believe I saw a Gawddamn word lessening the possibility that Newton is guilty. If there are serious or criminal charges coming down against Awbie they will come later and not necessarily by the hand of the NCAA. As for your precious Cumilla and any titles you think you’re going to win, there is already “fire” which has nothing to do with internet gossip fool; and those items are null and void just waiting for the proper monment to be made official. Go post on a Barner site where everybody appreciates stupidiy. RTR!

  14. U STUPID IGNORANT SLUT – THE NCAA PREZ EMMERT SABAN’S BUDDY WHO SHARES MUTUAL HATRED AS DOES THE WORLD FOR AU…SAID…CAM IS GUILTY BUT CROSS ALL THE T’S DOT ALL THE I’S AND DO IT QUICKLY

  15. DON’T BE SURPRISED THAT THE DIRTIEST TEAM OFF THE FIELD IS THE DIRTIEST TEAM ON THE FIELD AS WELL

  16. AU IS A JOKE YESTERDAY TODAY AND FOREVER…SEE 1971 IRON BOWL…WON’T BE FIRST TIME BAMA HAS DESTROYED AN UNDEFEATED SEASON FOR AU

  17. MAJORITY OF AU FANS ON SEC RANT OF TIGERDROPPINGS SAY ” OUR FANS WHO THINK AU IS NOT IN SERIOUS TROUBLE ARE BOOGS AND DESERVE THE SERIOUS AZZ KICKING BEATDOWN THEY ARE GETTING FROM SEC FANS EVERYWHERE”

  18. U STUPID IGNORANT SLUT – THE NCAA PREZ EMMERT SABAN’S BUDDY WHO SHARES MUTUAL HATRED AS DOES THE WORLD FOR AU…SAID…CAM IS GUILTY BUT CROSS ALL THE T’S DOT ALL THE I’S AND DO IT QUICKLY

  19. Here’s something interesting I found on Tiger Talk. “McGregor set up a scheme in which he gave money to charitable organizations set up by an attorney named Geddie. Geddie then sent the money to another charitable org in Detroit, which gives money to needy churches. Well guess who heads up the org in Detroit? Cecil Newton’s brother. The Feds and the NCAA know everything now.”

  20. There’s a lot of talk about Slive’s new power of suspension, which he exercised against Bruce Pearl. Now Aubie is wondering if he’ll use it against them with Cum Baby. Well never to worry Aubies. At least not until late Black Friday afternoon. Slive will never consider suspending Cummie as long as Aubie has a chance of taking the SEC to the BCSNCG. However, after Bama stomps your arse, all bets are off. Bye bye Cumbucket. RTR!

  21. When I am not busy, I do a lot of reading on the internet. You will all have to excuse me. As I get older my vision gets worse and unfortunately I leave a good deal of typos in the posts I make. I am very sorry for this.
I do try to read a lot about the news and politics back home and occasionally I will make the calls to people who are in the know (sorry no pun intended) back home.

What I keep getting is the same thing. The Auburn BOT and some of the boosters are in the peripheral of a lot of dirty politics and dealing. Not just Cam, Not just Uncle Milty, Not just the Colonial Bank failure. But just lots and lots of unsavory things.

This isn’t something I got on an internet blog. It is something I got from sources who are quite impeccable and would have told me if there is nothing to the recent problems at Auburn.

When are people like Phillip Marshall going to come forward and tell the delusional Auburn masses the truth or at least try to brace them for what is eventually going to come?
You read the al.com articles and they ambiguously try to spin statements as meaning that Auburn is 100% not guilty.
Take the Uncle Milty, Attorney Lawson and recent interview with the head honcho for the NCAA. The pro-auburn press basically spun it to where Auburn fans would believe that there is nothing at all to worry about.

You look at other sites who seem to have a bit more news than is being released by Pravda. Why isnt Joesph Goebbels Marshall clued into any of those news sources?Goldberg, Scarbinsky and others refuse to say anything negative about the University of Auburn. I suppose the best way to keep people ignorant is by feeding them a steady diet of non- or misinformation.
Me, personally, if I were an Auburn fan, I would be screaming for the truth. Unvarnished. And then I would be looking for the culprits. but I guess the auburn freindly press owes too many favors and too much money to the powers that be at auburn.

  22. I can’t figure out how to link this, so you can either type in or go to al.com, Auburn Football and check out “Commanders Call: Cam Newton The Best CFB Ever Will Be Cleared By NCAA.” Guys do yourself a favor and watch this video. It’s got to be the funniest phucking thing I’ve ever seen. If this was supposed to help the Barnies, somebody phucked up big time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZyyOVJhPY0

  23. Ok. Guess I linked it after all. Had to watch it again. Gawddamn it’s funny. If I was from somewhere else watching this I’d think Awbren is the biggest laughing stock dumbarse motherphuckers in the universe. And this was on their site. Oh and sorry. It’s not al.com, it’s Bleacher Report.com. RTR!

  24. On those YouTube videos — I got to know who is behind “xtranormal” —

Crimson Hammah — you seem to know a lot more than any of my sources know.

The FbEye has intertwined the slush fund charity with his “pay off politician for gambling” indictment — they are simply building a stronger case for the U.S. Attorney — they will present the evidence to the NZAA — who will then decide to act — this could take year(s).

One thing is for sure — they will “lose” in the end.

  25. No I was stating that the you tube videos were interesting – computer animation is interesting to prove points.

Nothing to do with sources – I appreciate the links – I am merely stating that this investigation will take longer than the average fan expects.

I hate the fact it’s going to take years – but in the end – the dark cloud surrounds the AD at the beta program for a long, long, long time. And they KNOW it.
