CBSSports.com Senior Writer Dennis Dodd wrote a brilliant article on Auburn and the continuing problems following the program on account of Auburn quarterback Cam Newton. Here are some highlights:

“If they keep winning, there’s no doubt they will be (in the BCSCG) this time. But if they keep playing Newton, there is plenty of doubt. That’s why the result had a tentative quality to it. Start with Chizik’s pregame qualifier that Newton was the starting quarterback “today.”

“Today.”

And this:

“There is a real title still out there. Linebacker Josh Bynes knows it. That’s why he may have fibbed just a little when asked what the last nine days were like for a distracted, distressed but still great Auburn.

“Normal,” Bynes said.

“If that was normal, big guy, you may have to get ready in coming days for the new normal.”

    And the best part? The more flamboyant Newton makes himself, the more hated he becomes in the national media. Forget the local mediots who seem to nurse from the Auburn athletic department like a suckling puppy.

    The national heavy hitters are who will keep this story alive and well.

  8. The Au and Georgia game was dirty. How many Georgia players had to be carried off the field with knee injuries. The hit in the back of the Georgia QB, well after the ball had been thrown.     I watched watched as Cam Newton taunted the country as well as the NCAA, while standing at the line of scrimmage. Blowing kisses to the AU fans. When the time ran out the signs that read, we are all in, litered the stadium floor….NCAA, AU IS IN YOUR FACE, how long will you let this continue. If the NCAA lets it go on. Then every school should start buying their team. Hey if you disguise it well enough and make it tough to prove, then why not. You’ll get to have a good season for a while and have a hell of a party, while taunting the whole college football world in the process. NCAA is starting to look like a freaking joke.

  55. War Cam Illegal! Auburn 2010 season* is sure one to remember! Cams dad has admitted to shopping his son to Miss. St., which is against the rules. Auburn may or may not have known. But I think someone at AU paid the price…and it will come out eventually. Cam turned down $180,000 to go to Miss. St. for Auburn, no strings attached?   56. If the NCAA is doing their job they will bust their butts in the next 2 weeks to learn enough to know whether or not to tell Aubie to play Camilla or suspend him. It would be a cluster phuck of a ripoff if Aubie eventually has to vacate the season and by then their ranking will have screwed LSU out of an SEC championship (They may have already screwed them out of a berth in the BCS), screwed Bama out of a BCS Bowl or depending on LSU maybe the Sugar Bowl, and even phucked up the national championship game by keeping TCU or Boise State out. The NCAA will drop the hammer soon after the SEC Championship game. Win or lose LSU is left out due to the one loss, and they will be unable to overcome the close games without playing in the SEC Championship. The NCAA insures no SEC team wins the BCS.
