Five Selected as Players of the Week by Football Coaching Staff
The Alabama coaching staff recognized five players of the week following the 24-21 loss at No. 12 LSU. Julio Jones was named the offensive player of the week while Josh Chapman and Dont’a Hightower earned defensive honors. Marquis Maze and John Fulton were special teams selections.

Jones earns the honor for the seventh time this season and the second week in a row. Jones caught 10 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown. It was his second straight double-digit reception game. His touchdown came on a nine-yard completion from Greg McElroy late in the fourth quarter to pull the Tide within three with just over three minutes remaining. The Foley, Ala., native has earned the honor five times on offense and twice on special teams.

On defense, Hightower and Chapman earned the nod from the coaching staff. Hightower led the team with 10 tackles with one tackle for loss and one quarterback hurry. The 10 tackles were a season high –one off his career-best – and the second most this season registered by an Alabama player. Chapman registered the Tide’s only sack for a loss of 12 yards. He finished with a career-best eight tackles. The unassisted sack was a career-first for the junior defensive tackle. The honor is the second of the season for the both players.

Special teams honors from the coaching staff went to true freshman John Fulton and junior Marquis Maze. Fulton was excellent on both his coverage unit and his return unit. Maze made one tackle on special teams while returning three kickoffs for 73 yards, including a long of 26 yards. Fulton and Maze were each honored for the second time this season.

  1. Indy – go away, little man. See me when the Vols have learned to play football again, and against someone better than Memphis. Champions only – no bottom feeders.
