ALABAMA COACHING STAFF RECOGNIZES EIGHT PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (via UA Media Relations)
A total of eight Crimson Tide players, including four on offense, were named players of the week by the Alabama coaching staff following the Crimson Tide’s 62-13 victory at Duke.

In his first game back after knee surgery, junior tailback Mark Ingram led all runners with 151 yards on just nine carries with two touchdowns. He ran for 48 yards on his first carry of the season and had a 50-yard run later in the first quarter on his third rush to reach the century mark on three carries. Helping to clear the way for Ingram and for the Alabama offense to total 626 yards on the day was Chance Warmack. The sophomore offensive guard did not allow a pressure or a sack, and did not get called for any penalties in receiving the top grade by the coaches on the offensive line. Wide receivers Julio Jones and Darius Hanks were also recognized on offense. Jones led all receivers with five catches for 106 yards and one touchdown while Hanks was second on the list with three grabs for 52 yards, including a diving TD catch that was the first score of the game.

Defensively, linebackers Dont’a Hightower and Nico Johnson were mentioned as players of the week by the coaching staff. Hightower led the defense with eight total tackles (five solo) and is first on the team through three games with 16 stops on the season. Johnson followed Hightower on the stat sheet as he was credited with six tackles (four solo) and 0.5 tackles for loss. Alabama’s defense currently ranks second nationally in scoring defense (6.3 ppg) and ninth in total defense (253.3 ypg).

Trent Richardson and Wes Neighbors had the most significant contributions on special teams. Richardson returned a kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown and finished the game with 184 all-purpose yards. He also had a tackle as a member of the coverage teams. Neighbors graded out well as a member of the kickoff coverage, kickoff return and punt return teams. He was credited with two tackles in the game, both of which came on kickoff coverage.

Leading the way in terms of appearances as coaching staff’s players of the week are Richardson and Jones, who have been recognized all three weeks.

  1. Richardson is just too much of an athlete to be compiling bench time. he and ingram need to both be on the field for every snap at some position. hell richardson can catch as good as the recievers. i’d like to see the wishbone with ingram, richardson and lacy running and mcelroy throwing to jones, maze, etc. talk about scaring the s__t out of defensive
    coordinators. rtr!

  2. I would love to see some plays with Ingram and Richardson in the backfield. Richardson is probably the best blocking back we have. Did ya’ll see some of the blocks he made Saturday in the passing game? That guy is a beast. Bama easily has the best backfield in the country this year.

  3. Didn’t see the Richardson tackle, but now I’ll have to go find it! Watching him run and shed tacklers like he does, I bet he puts a mean hit on a punt returner. He’d make an awesome linebacker!
