Recruiting update: ‘Football smart’ Trey DePriest looks to top 100 tackles for a second straight year

The Alabama Crimson Tide landed a top linebacker when Trey DePriest committed to play football at Alabama. Here is more information on the recruit:
Name: Trey DePriest
School: Springfield (Ohio) High School
Class: Senior
Position: Linebacker
Height: 6-2
Weight: 230
College: Alabama

AP: “It just felt comfortable there,” he said of his visit to Tuscaloosa prior to making a decision. The Crimson Tide are No. 1 in the Top 25 preseason poll.

MORE: DePriest (6-foot-2, 230 pounds) put up big numbers last year: He had 101 tackles, seven sacks and had three fumble recoveries.

He also rushed for 812 yards; had 13 receptions for 202 yards, scored 13 touchdowns and had a 37.7 punting average. DePriest probably would have driven the team bus as well but he turned 16 just weeks before the season opener.

As a sophomore outside linebacker he had 31 tackles (five for losses) and four sacks.

“He’s a good student, and he’s football smart,” Springfield head coach Rick Robertson told the Springfield News-Sun.

DePriest runs a 4.79 40-yard dash and has a vertical leap of 32 inches, numbers that will improve as he matures.

“I’m still growing and I know I will have to get stronger to play at Alabama,” he said. (Below you can read the entire AP report on the Alabama Crimson Tide recruit)

  1. What is funny is that Auburn fans actually believe Chizik is doing the same type of recruiting.

  2. No brandii, what’s funny is that Chizik IS doing the same type of recruiting and you’re too stupid to even recognize it.

  3. Sorry I disagree. I wouldn’t call one good recruiting year as the same as what Saban has done. But keep on wishin’ crybaby. Saban WILL outwork Chizik in recruiting and coaching on the field. Watch and cry about it.
