Notre Dame’s new coach is a winner. But is he the type of winner like Alabama Crimson Tide football coach Nick Saban or Florida Gator football coach Urban Meyer? Yes, according to one analyst.

According to the AP, “What Notre Dame needed was a program changer and a coach who had a proven resume of doing such,” said former Fighting Irish offensive lineman Aaron Taylor, who works as an analyst for CBS College Sports Network. “Brian Kelly is on par with the Nick Sabans and the Urban Meyers of the world: A proven program builder at every level he has been at.”

That is a strong endorsement. Below you can read more about the Notre Dame football coach, and how the Fighting Irish football program can benefit from problems at rivals like Michigan (Rich Rodriguez and his NCAA problems) and USC (Lane Kiffin and NCAA problems.)

  1. I despise ND, but I wouldn’t mind seeing them do markedly better under Kelly just to prove how overrated Weis was. And I’m so sick of hearing from my ND friends about their lofty academic standards – their ’08 class was ranked a shade beneath UA, and the rest are at least top 20 if I’m not mistaken. They only need to find 25 studs across the country with a 4.4 and a 4.0. Their competitors in that sense would be Stanford, BC, and the service academies. Gee, which one has a network deal?
