The football season rapidly approaches. The Alabama Crimson Tide hit the practice field Thursday. Notice that Alabama football players already are talking about Nick Saban’s drive to keep complacency away from this year’s team.
Alabama Football Opens Fall Camp with Split Practice
The Alabama football team opened its 2010 fall training camp with a split practice session at the Drew-Thomas Practice Facility on Thursday.
“I’m very excited to welcome our players back today and get started here for the 2010 football season,” head coach Nick Saban said on Wednesday. “The players have worked hard in the offseason and we’ve had a good summer overall. We feel like we’re pretty healthy going into camp so we’re really excited about what this team might be able to accomplish.”
The veterans got things started Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m., with a two-hour workout in shorts and helmets. The rest of the team will close the opening day with a two-hour practice, which is slated to start at 7:30 p.m.
“I think he’s turned it up so we won’t get complacent,” senior defensive lineman Luther Davis said about Coach Nick Saban’s intensity heading into fall camp. “I think that’s very good when you want to win a championship, because you can’t sleep. Everyone has you circled (on their schedule).”
Davis, a key defensive line reserve last season, looks to help fill the void left by Lorenzo Washington and Terrence Cody’s exit. Davis will join linebacker Dont’a Hightower and safety Mark Barron in aiming to keep the Crimson Tide defense among the best in the nation.
Alabama will hold its first combined practice of the season on Friday with the veterans and newcomers all scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. workout at the Drew-Thomas Practice Facility.
The Crimson Tide will hold their annual Fan Day on Sunday, August 8, at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Fan Day will begin with an open practice from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Following the conclusion of practice, players and coaches will be available for autographs during a 45-minute session on the field following the practice. Fans may enter the stadium beginning at 1:30 p.m. through northwest spiral gate 5 (closest to Wallace Wade Ave.) The line for the autograph session will start at gate 46.
