On the Finebaum Radio Network today Dennis Dodd from CBSSports.com joined Lindy’s, Athlon, ESPN.com, and The Sporting News in tapping the Alabama Crimson Tide as his #1 team heading into the 2010 season.

Phil Steele now remains as the only prognosticator with Bama in a position other than the top spot.  That is, perhaps, unless you count the Opelika Times-Tribune.

As of today, here’s how the top 3’s have all played out:

Lindy’s
1. Alabama
2. Boise State
3. Ohio State
(Oklahoma is #9…remember that)

Athlon
1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. USC
(Oklahoma is #5)

ESPN.com
1. Alabama
2. Boise State
3. Ohio State
(Oklahoma is #10)

The Sporting News
1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Boise State
(Oklahoma is #10)

CBSSportsline.com
1. Alabama
2. Boise State
3. Ohio State
(Oklahoma is #12)

Now here’s Phil Steele’s take:
1. Oklahoma
2. Ohio State
3. Alabama

After my recent article totally agreeing with Steele that Auburn would likely go undefeated this season, I was “informed” that Steele is the most accurate prognosticator in the land, according to some.  I still agree with them.

And I don’t at all think he would make sensational predictions in order to separate himself from the pack and sell magazines.

After all, it’s hard to argue with his 12% accuracy rate in predicting last season’s Top 25.

  1. It is hard to take a guy who’s first and last name rhyme seriously…..

  2. I cannot begin to express the warm, comfortable, serene sense of satisfaction I have knowing that one small comment I made about a pre-season magazine has sent ITK into this much a totally obsessed tizzy. Life is good…

  3. At the end of the day being rated #1 in the preseason is great for us Bama fans but it just puts a bigger target on Bama’s back!!
I just hope the season does not play out like the 93 team with
key injuries and god for bit losing to the barners and vols!!

  4. Ha ha! No tizzy here, Julia. Just merely pointing out that the one you put all your faith in about your beloved Tigers being worth anything this season is a complete boob.

And the warmth you feel is the fever stemming from your aubsession with all things Alabama. Here AGAIN, huh?

    Crystal.

  5. Bamadon, I understand your concern, but 2010’s version of the Tide would beat the ’93 team by four touchdowns. I loved Stallings, but his 1957 offense didn’t work when his defense wasn’t NFL ready. Our D this season may experience some bumps in the beginning, but will end up being as good as ’09 by seasons’ end. Hightower, Barron, Dareus, Chapman, Upshaw, Johnson, Harris, Murphy, Kirkpatrick, Square, Sentimore, Milliner, Lewis, Davis, Smith…please.

  6. As the other blogger stated … it’s just a bigger target on our backs — rankings don’t mean anything until November.

How many weeks will we stay at No. 1? I hope complacency doesn’t take effect like it did with Florida … just some thoughts.

  7. I dont think complacency happened at Florida as much as their defense being exposed did…. Bama had more talent on the defensive side of the ball last year, and will have more again this year, in spite of the losses on defense.

Bama will be solid. What you guys lost on defense will be made up for on the offensive side of the ball.

  8. Julietta of course your work is done. When you quote a dumbass as being the gospel, then you become an equal dumbass. There’s absolutely nothing left for you to say. Tell you what moron. Just to demonstrate exactly the magnitude of the stupidity of Steele’s predictions, and the utter and total imposibility of them happening; I’ll make you this promise. If Oklahoma wins the national championship AND the Barn goes undefeated – I will suck your d–k! If you have one. Bwaa Haww Haww! RTR!
