Gene Stallings’ appearance on Finebaum was a continuation of the rhetoric in Texas A&M’s declaration of independence from the Texas Longhorns.

The themes hit by coach were important points made over the last few days: Stallings is no longer bothered by separate conferences for the Aggies and Longhorns, and Texas A&M should do what is in its own best interest. While Stallings didn’t say it, that means what is in Texas’ best interest is not necessarily in A&M’s best interest. Longhorns might not agree with it, but A&M appears to be asserting itself. Will the Longhorns put down this uprising or will the independent thinking spread to places like Oklahoma?

The money quote from the Paul Finebaum Radio Network interview: “I think Texas A&M is big enough to stand on its own, it doesn’t necessarily have to be piggyback to somebody else,” Stallings said.

  1. I’m not so sure about that. Yes, any BCS school can survive on their own in any conference. But there are intangibles to be considered such as the fan base and state pride for some schools because of their history. For instance Bama could survive equally well if Auburn disappeared off the face of the earth. But could Auburn do the same without Bama? The answer – NO! Because Auburn needs Bama to justify its existance and their fanbase needs Bama to hate. The Texas – Texas A&M situation is exactly the same. Living all of my life in both states, I can tell you there is no other instate rivalry in which there the four teams mirror each other equal to Alabama-Auburn and Texas-Texas A&M. Even the schools are the same. The state schools Alabama and Texas are Med and Law schools and the other 2 are Cow Colleges. Hell as for Auburn and A&M, Auburn was East Alabama Male College and until the past 20 years or so A&M was an all male ROTC school. Now you know why Revillie always looked scared. Bwaa Haww Haww! RTR!

  2. I have been wondering about all of this.
Are you going to put all the Title 9 Sports on Airplanes ?
Seems like the Cost of Business is going up for all the Bottom Feeders Sports.
Especially – if you are going to span thousands of miles Cuz .

  3. I’m sure things like that have crossed the minds of the bean counters. That’s one reason Texas struggled to keep the conference together. They specified that they didn’t like the logistics inspite of the offer of a lot more money. But hey, little La. Tech manages to handle living with the WAC and traveling from Louisiana to Nevada, Montana, Idaho, Utah and California, and making a hell of a lot less than even the most insignificant BCS school.

  4. E.G. From Alabama needs to crawl back under his rock. A&M is no cow college. #9 natioally in endowment. #21 in reasearch. an AAU member. Alabama’s superior in every regard except in football. A&M is a giant waiting to awaken on the gridiron. The SEC would be enriched greatly by it’s joinder.

  5. Hey John how about lending me some of that shit you’ve been smoking. Or did it come out of the business end of a steer? Unfortunately A&M has been waiting for about 100 years to awaken. I do believe last year a couple of our 2nd rate football teams showed yall just how far you have yet to come. Dude there aint no more Bear Bryants. Well maybe 1, but we have him too. Oh, and if you don’t think you’re a cow college maybe you should consult with your bretherin at UT. I’m positive they would love to educate you on the matter. Just funnin with you guy. We’d much rather have you guys than those arrogant bastards from Austin. Hell, we have more than twice as many national championships as them. But you’d never know it to listen to them. Hope everything works out well for yall. RTR!
