Good pitching beats good hitting any day, and Monday this proved correct again.  Nathan “Peanut” Kilcrease…all 5’6″ of him…shut down the regional host Yellow Jackets in the deciding regional championship game at Russ Chandler Stadium on the campus of Georgia Tech University.

Kilcrease threw 107 pitches just two days removed from throwing 99 in a seven inning win over Elon on Friday.  Kilcrease entered the game with an 8-6 lead in the fifth inning but allowed two runs on four hits as the Yellow Jackets evened the score at 8-8. Alabama answered with two runs in the sixth to a take a 10-8 lead, ending all scoring for the evening.

Alabama (41-23) captured its seventh NCAA Regional Championship and its first since winning the 2006 NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional.  The regional championship was its first on the road since 1983 when it won the NCAA South Regional at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida.

Alabama has now won 12 of its last 14 games and will travel next weekend to Clemson, South Carolina for the 2010 NCAA Super Regionals, which will be played Saturday, June 12 through Monday, June 14. The best-of-three series will be played Friday, June 12, at 5 p.m. (CDT), Saturday, June 13, at 6 p.m. (CDT) and Monday, June 14, at either 12 p.m. or 6 p.m. (CDT). The first game will be televised by ESPNU, while games two and three will be aired on ESPN 2.

Clemson advances to host the Super Regional, victorious over the Auburn Tigers.  The Crimson Tide is 5-1 in its last six road games, winning series’ at Tennessee and No. 8 Georgia Tech.
