From the Associated Press: Ten schools made the underachieving list in football and men’s basketball, getting punishments that range from scholarship losses to reductions in practice times. Only two — Alabama-Birmingham and New Mexico State — play in college football’s top level. UAB was the only school in the major football to receive a reduction in practice times in both sports. (you can read the entire AP report on last year’s APR in the report below.)

Just so people don’t miss it: “UAB was the only school in the major football to receive a reduction in practice times in both sports.” UAB is a joke both on the field and in the classroom.

  1. So, is it piss on UAB week, or something?

Just tell me when you’ll be airing the Criminal Tide’s dirty laundry, and I’ll be sure to check back in.

  2. That’d be the institution that pumps about $3 billion into the state economy annually.

How ’bout just saying ‘thank you’ and move on?

  3. Why are all of you blazer-holes on the Bama site? Nothing of any interest on any UAB blog? Is is because Cappy is the only one who will actually publish the truth about UAB’s supposed athletics? Can’t play ball, can’t pass a class – what are you good for? Go play in the street downtown.

  4. So how is it that the auburn swim team is actually dumber than the whiz kids on the football team.
I smell some fresh sociology credits cooking.

  5. UAB provides revenue to prop up the entire UA system. You’re crapping on the goose AND the golden egg.

  6. So what if UAB provides revenue for the system – does that make it OK to throw millions of dollars down a crap hole just so they can field terrible athletic teams and try to compete with Bama? You have made the arguement to dissolve UAB’s athletic programs – they are a good academic school, they provide revenue to the entire system, they are world renown for medical research – why do they need athletics?

  7. Answer: They don’t. Get rid of this silly albatros before it brings down the whole school.

  8. This is what comes of a athletic dept built of spite.

They don’t need it or can they afford it. The “football” program sacrifices the health and well-being of it’s players for the big money games needed to fund the program because smaug and his ilk can’t or won’t pay to play.

They talk a mean game but when it’s time to pay they run to government for funding or Nebraska for a trick.

    Shut it down.

  9. What school NEEDS an athletic program?

    Name just one.

Thanks. I’ll hang up and listen.

  10. i’m sure someone a lot smarter than i can make a cogent argument for why UA “needs” it’s athletics and ‘bama/b’ham doesn’t. i’ll not.

i used the word “need” relative to the fact that ‘bama/b’ham alum won’t or can’t fund the athletic dept. the blazer’s most famous (or infamous)alum, john rogers, has admitted publicly (i know, i’ve asked him) that the vast majority of the money he’s brought in comes from the state coffers. i specifically asked him how much does he PERSONALLY commit yearly to the dept., he couldn’t (or wouldn’t) answer me.

and that smauggy, is why you don’t “need” blazer athletics. you don’t want it. it’s since it’s illegitimate conception, never operated in the black, and it doesn’t because you, smauggy, don’t come off the wallet. blazer athletics is the parasite, UA the host.

(and just as an aside, how much a year do YOU, smauggy boy, put into the blazer athletic dept. you claim to love so much???)(not that i’m expecting an honest…or ANY answer)

you obviously don’t “want” ‘bama/b’ham athletics due to the fact it’s always operated in the red, prostituting it’s teams for money games and suckling off different government entities for tax money.

therefore, by your own admission, you don’t “need” blazer athletics.

    it should cease to exist.

  11. Tell you what. UAB should drop football the minute Tuscaloosa drops basketball. Deal?

Why should I answer your question? You huffed and puffed and didn’t answer mine?

Name one school that needs an athletic program. Just one.

Oh, and to answer your question, none of your damned business, but I will say I’ve limbered up my checkbook a lot more frequently than your average dirt road Todd fan.

  12. this converstaion is truly a sign of the times.

i’m assuming you went to school at ‘bama/b’ham because of your haughty attitude coupled with your inability to read and comprehend the written word:

“i’m sure someone a lot smarter than i can make a cogent argument for why UA “needs” it’s athletics and ‘bama/b’ham doesn’t. i’ll not.”

i’ll try and make this easier for you, college boy,

    i can’t and won’t.

furthermore, that wasn’t my point. (and after your last post it’s unsurprising you missed it)

you try to spin things by bringing crimson tide basketball into the fray and in your ignorance you fail to see that ‘bama basketball is paid for.

as is every other sport under the umbrella of alabama crimson tide athletics.

not only is alabama athletics self-sufficient, it makes money. athletics at the tuscaloosa campus are a multi-million dollar enterprise. and it is so because alumni and fans see to it THAT it is so. the polar opposite of blazer athletics.

    and why????

“Oh, and to answer your question, none of your damned business, but I will say I’ve limbered up my checkbook a lot more frequently than your average dirt road Todd fan.”

thought you weren’t going to answer?

    none of my business??

well, let me square you up on something smauggy boy, your athletic dept. has been propped up on numerous occasions by my tax dollars against my wishes. that makes it my business.

you won’t answer the question because you either don’t contribute at all or your contributions and so piddling in comparison to what blazer athletics needs to be viable you’re too embarrassed to honestly say. (just like rogers)

and in the end honesty is something you blazer parasites want nothing to do with. because honesty would require a logo change.

honesty would require the dragon logo on the side of your football helmets and on your basketball court be replaced with……….

    a common tick.

  13. For UAB’s athletic program to be so irrelevant, you sure have spent a lot of time writing about them. I think you must have a crush on Blaze.
