The Tuscaloosa mayor is a UAB fan! The horror! First there was the Tuscaloosa Police Department filled with Auburn fans, and now we have word of this betrayal. A UAB guy running the city where the treasure of the state—the University of Alabama—resides?

Something is wrong. Something must be done. This is like having a Lutheran sitting in the seat of St. Peter in Rome and wearing the triregnum, or having a Ptolemeic adherent presiding over this month’s meeting of the Royal Astronomical Society.

Even more appalling is that mayor Walt Maddox proudly proclaims on his website his UAB affiliation. He trumpets the heresy of holding a BA and MPA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

But the worst revelation awaits us at the end of his official biography. According to the website, Maddox was a “UAB Football Letter-winner, 1991-1994.”

How could Tuscaloosa allows this to happen?

  1. Shit guy. It’s still a free country. I went there and I’m not apologizing. I would rank this up with whoever the hell William Bell pulls for. Who gives a damn ?
    RTR

  2. Yes we are. The deal has been struck. The Alabama Bruno Sports Foundation has spread the Candy well. This project will be the “Super Sewer” for the Birmingham Politicos.
Don’t laugh at me in a few years when Mayor Willy goes to jail….
    THE FIX IS IN

  3. The other guy he ran against had only a high school education, thats how! UAB is merely a UA spin-off invented by Wallace to get re-elected and re-elected and…Whose worried ’bout UAB anyway, do they really play football their?

  4. Don’t know about “their” guy.
You need to educate your cracker ass about the Medical Research going on at UAB.
Great things are being done homey.

  5. UAB is a great school in a lot of areas, just intolerable when the few die hards they have try to jump in the deep end of the pool with the big boys and position the Blazers against the athletic powers that be. Academically you can’t argue that it’s a good place, and in a great position to serve commuters from all over our area who don’t or can’t move away to go to college. But socially and athletically it’s awkward and gangly, and just hard to look at.

If UAB’s basketball team played in a real conference they’d still be competitive, but would have more than just a couple of losses for sure.

I’d love to make the mayor happy and start playing in basketball and football. Would be interesting, for sure.

  6. I have stated in the past that I also went to UAB. But for post graduate coarses in ’72 when it really was U of A in Birmingham. It piques me the back biting that has evolved. RTR.

  7. i’d bet a dollar to a donut there are more crimson tide fans attending uab than “blazers”.

Son, where did you learn to write and read?
    “Whose” ? Who’s
    “football their?” football there.

You may want to learn how to write grammatically correct american english, son.

    Shhh.. what a goofball!

  9. That UAB idiot shouldntve been elected and I don’t care who he ran against as long as they follow the TIDE. All their fans think their better than us just because they went to college. But WE won the NC! Id rather have class and tradition than all their stupid education. It’s done just fine for this state up to now and it will for alltime. RTR! RTR!

  10. Sabanic Verses,

You’re right. That’s why Alabama is among the poorest states in the union…

To everyone else supporting this poser’s website,

There’s nothing to UAT other than a jalopy university, hanging off of a mongoloid’s sport/stadium. I’m a UAB graduate, and I’m so jealous.

  11. “Whose worried ’bout UAB anyway, do they really play football their?”

Yes, in fact we do. We’ve played SEC powerhouses in the past and beaten them. Too bad you guys won’t give us the chance.

Does UAT really award degrees there?

I’ll take a few diehard fans who have real reason to be a fan of my school over a state full of people who are lucky to have graduated high school and have more children than teeth any day, thanks.

  12. That is awful that someone coming from a nationally acclaimed Public Administration program would waste his time in your shit town. I hate he’s in that position as much as you.

  13. Alabama might be poorer than those other states, but how many NCs they got? Not as many as Alabama. And the mostly retarded voters are the barners. They dont have class and tradition and they dont even have one NC they dont have to share with someone else. At least they have more than UABs got. So you keep thinking your better than us, but your the one calling yourself a nazi just like Stalin trying to control other people thoughts. You can’t control class and tradition. RTR! RTR!

  14. Hell, anybody could have as many NCs as Alabama does if you count one pollster retroactively awarding it or if you count years where the NC was awarded before you got beat in the bowl game.

  15. What’s even more comical is that the Crimson TURD program is scared to play UAB in football!!

Chicken Shit Bammer is scared of LOSING!

  16. Indiana Jay(Vol) ???

One post was civil and the other was somewhere in between that stuff you wipe out of your eyes in the morning and dog shit … as usual.

A real conference like the SEC? Because we’re 2-0 in SEC play this year. We’re also 1-0 against the Big East. We have 5 (and counting) wins against the RPI top 100, and both of our losses have been on the road against RPI top 100 teams.

  18. Sabanic verses says:

“Alabama might be poorer than those other states, but how many NCs they got? Not as many as Alabama.”

Are you kidding me? Tell me, what is your degree in? That is the problem I have with you people. “We might have a ton of problems in our state, but by God the Tahd has more national championships!” How absolutely idiotic and moronic can a person be. You make me embarrassed that I actually occupy the same geographical region as you. You ought to be ASHAMED by that asinine remark.

  19. I’m glad to see IndianaVol and indyjay are together these days. I suppose mancrunch.com does work, even for a fairy in Orange and a mouthbreather in Green.

  20. Sabanic Verses:
“And the mostly retarded voters are the barners”

You do realize that the “mostly retarded” voting population he was talking is T-Town, not the state. And, last time I checked the vast majority of Tuscaloosa is ‘Bama fans… way to make the entire ‘Bama fanbase look stupid, Sabanic Verses…

  21. “since when does the college you root for have anything to do with running a town??”

Since the college I root for is the largest employer in the state?

  22. Isn’t UAB part of the almighty U of A? Hello….. I see it as a great assest to the city of Tuscaloosa. At least he can have some objectivity.

Seriously, are you sure this is your stance. I am use to illiterate bammers spouting off about class and tradition, but even I am astonished from this statement. All I will say is “Class” has nothing to do with winning football games, bowl games or National Championships. Or at least it doesn’t in the educated world I live in.

  24. I can’t tell, but Sabanic Verses makes such asinine arguments that I think he might even be pretending to be a Bammer just to make them look worse…

At least I hope so, for his sake.

  25. walt is a great fit to work with the U of A System and understand gets along well with all University Administrators, including Dr. Witt. As Mayor, he has done more to work cooperatively on projects with U of A than any other Mayor in over a half century or more. He does not wear his UAB athletic or academic connection on his sleeve and loves the crimson as much as any tide fan. Yes, he played football at UAB and is a 4 year letterman there so lets cut him a little slack and let him relax on the games he does see in Bartow. He admits himself he could never have played at Bama as he was not that talented.
