Roy Upchurch Added to Senior Bowl Roster

TUSCALOOSA – University of Alabama senior running back Roy Upchurch was added to the South Team’s roster late Sunday for the 2010 Under Armour Senior Bowl, which is scheduled for Saturday, January 30, at Ladd-Pebbles Stadium in Mobile, Ala.

Upchurch, a native of Tallahassee, Fla., is the sixth Alabama player invited to play in the 2010 Under Armour Senior Bowl, joining Javier Arenas, Terrence Cody, Mike Johnson, Colin Peek and Leigh Tiffin.

Upchurch rushed for 299 yards on 48 carries (6.2 yards per carry) and a touchdown in 2009 which catching 12 passes for 72 yards and a score. He also registered three tackles on special teams as the Crimson Tide captured the BCS National Championship.

Upchurch played in 39 games during his four years at the Capstone. He finished with 923 yards on 168 carries and nine touchdowns. Upchurch, who excelled as a third-down back for the Crimson Tide in 2009, also caught 28 career passes for 224 yards and a score in his UA career. He also proved to be an outstanding special teams player with seven career tackles and a blocked kick.

The 2010 Under Armour Senior Bowl will kickoff at 3 p.m. Saturday and will be televised on the NFL Network. All of the players arrived in Mobile on Sunday and are schedule to begin the practice week on Monday with the National Scouting Weigh-In.

Joining the players in Mobile Sunday were the two coaching staffs for this year’s game—the Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions. The Dolphins will coach the South squad this week, while the Lions will head up the North.

The South team will practice at Fairhope Municipal Stadium Monday, while the North will work out at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Both practices begin at 2:45pm (CT) Monday and all are free and open to the public.
