Hostessgate
Tennessee Volunteer fans continue to spin the hostess recruiting scandal, but fans should understand hostesses are only one part of a wide-ranging investigation. The NCAA is looking into Tennessee’s recruiting practices and not just hostesses. Don’t believe me? Just listen to the New York Times reporter on Paul Finebaum’s radio program from Monday (first hour.) The money quote: “They are questioning Tennessee’s recruiting practices.” Hostesses might get the ball rolling, but you can’t bet it won’t end there.

Barrett Jones Named Freshman All-American

Alabama freshman right guard Barrett Jones was named to the 2009 Phil Steele and CollegeFootballNews.com Freshman All-American Teams on Wednesday.

The Memphis, Tenn., native started all 13 games for the Crimson Tide’s SEC Championship team at right guard. He helped the Crimson Tide offense churn out 215.8 rushing yards and 413.8 total yards per game this season. He also cleared the path for sophomore Mark Ingram’s school record 1,542 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns this season. Jones was twice named Alabama offensive player of the week this season by the Tide coaching staff.

Running back Trent Richardson was an honorable mention freshman All-American by CollegeFootballNews.com. The Pensacola, Fla., native was the Crimson Tide’s second-leading rusher with 642 yards and six touchdowns this season. He averaged 5.1 yards per carry this season. He also caught 14 passes for 107 yards.

He was twice named SEC Freshman of the Week following wins over Florida International and Arkansas. In the win over the Golden Panthers, Richardson had 15 rushing attempts for 118 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 23 yards. In his SEC debut against Arkansas, Richardson had nine carries for 65 yards, including a highlight-reel 52-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. He also added two catches for 16 yards.

In addition, the Crimson Tide also had 15 players recognized on Phil Steele’s 2009 All-SEC squad on Wednesday, including a league-leading nine first-team All-SEC selections.

Senior Javier Arenas was named first-team All-SEC at two positions, including cornerback and return specialist. Other first-team selections were running back Mark Ingram, left guard Mike Johnson, nose guard Terrence Cody, linebacker Rolando McClain, safety Mark Barron and kicker Leigh Tiffin.

Senior tight end Colin Peek, junior left tackle James Carpenter and senior cornerback Kareem Jackson were third-team All-SEC selections, while sophomore center William Vlachos, senior linebacker Eryk Anders and Jones were fourth-team picks.

  3. The stupid ass shit about that rediculous salary is that now everybody has to pay more when they’re already paying too damn much! And it wasn’t neccessary, because Brown wasn’t going anywhere except down the hall to the AD’s office. Stupidity! Oh well, their 5 million coach is gonna get his ass handed to him by our poor 4 million coach! When the Sabanator gets through with him they’re gonna be demanding a refund! RTR!
