Before we get started why not a nice photograph from the NFL?

The news keeps rolling in during a busy week. The Alabama Crimson Tide placed eight players on the All-SEC team. Rolando McClain has snagged a couple of awards. Even the assistant coaches are getting in on the action. And we can’t forget Alabama lands another Sports Illustrated cover. You’ll find links to all those stories below.

One quick quote from Rolando McClain from today’s award presentation: “This is a surprise,” McClain said upon receiving the award. “They did a good job with it. I’d like to say thank you to Mr. Butkus. Two of my teammates (Javier Arenas and Mike Johnson) are here. I’d like to say thank you to my whole team and Coach Saban. When I first got here, I was just an 18-year-old kid running around, trying to learn the system. Thanks to him and a lot of hard work by the other assistant coaches, I guess I turned out to be a pretty good linebacker.

“It means a lot to me, but I think it’s bigger than me, it’s for my team. Without them I would not get this award. These guys have played hard all year and I am thankful for them. I love the individual award, but I would like nothing more than to see my teammates with a national championship ring. That would be huge. I am sure my mom would be proud. I just want to say thank you again. I am at a loss for words. I never expected this.”

  1. I am so impressed with Rolando’s ability to not only focus himself, but be a leader to his teammates and help them to focus as well. I have had several opportunities to meet this young man, and every time I come away impressed with his humility and really gentle nature – such a contrast to what we see on the field. I remember an interview with Javier Arenas, who said that, on the field, you don’t SEE Rolando make a hit on an opposing player, you HEAR it – like a mic-ed up player in an NFL game film. That’s why Tebow had that LOOK in his eyes before every snap in the 4th quarter.
