AP: In a part of the country where college football is king, Florida and Alabama are the gold standard. With a heritage that ranges from Bear Bryant in that houndstooth hat to Steve Spurrier throwing it all over the field in the “Fun ‘n’ Gun,” these are two programs where championships are expected, losing just isn’t tolerated.

The Tide’s success is more long term — it won the very first SEC title in 1933 and now stands at 20, the bulk of them won during Bryant’s quarter-century reign. Alabama’s last SEC title was 10 long years ago, and the faithful are getting restless for another.

“We sort of know that the expectations at the University of Alabama are relatively high,” Saban deadpanned.

Florida has been the SEC’s dominant team since Spurrier guided the school to its first conference title in 1991. The Gators now have nine trophies in their case.

“The history is phenomenal,” Meyer said. “When you start mentioning those names and you start talking about the Alabama Crimson Tide and Florida Gators playing for the Southeastern Conference for the right to play for the national championship, you’re probably lying if you’re not overwhelmed by the whole deal.” (read the entire report embedded in this post.)

  1. Before we get to the SECCG, let me just say that last night Prattville got dry fucked bigtime by the refs. Not only were they far and away better than Hoover, but a one eyed illiterate peg legged Barner could see that the Hoover QB fumbled into the endzone 2 feet before he crossed the goal line! And I know cause I was there in BDS frosting my balls off. I hate to say it, but now with the Super 6 finally getting out of Lesion Field, maybe next year in JHS the Southern Division teams will catch a break and finally get away from the predjudice of the north! What a waste of a season of toil! Pathetic!

  3. If Texas loses to Nebraska (which I think they will) — would the nation want a repeat of this game? I know if probably wouldn’t happen but the rankings and standings speak for themselves. Look at the drop after the no. 2 spot. Would you want Alabama vs. TCU for the National? This could get very interesting.

    I’ll say this again — if Texas loses — don’t be surprised to see a rematch of this game although the nation would probably despise it.

  4. Well the only way there would be a rematch is if Bama wins by a field goal or less or in overtime and the computers give Florida a really high score. Cause the coaches and Harris are gonna vote TCU or Cincinnati. I don’t think I would want to play Florida again! If Bama loses there’s much less chance of a rematch. Hey Cap or anybody. What’s the story on Devonta Bolton? I was talking to him in the Buffalo Wild Wings in Amarillo, Texas during the Iron Bowl. He said he was dismissed from the team because of some trouble he got into. Said he hopes to get back on the team. He wouldn’t elaborate on what the trouble was. He said Saban is tough, and won’t put up with any shit what-so-ever. That’s good to know – huh Barners! RTR!

  5. I wouldn’t want to play Florida again either. What if it goes into overtime and is one by a field goal, etc. The national pundits are going to say — there’s still no clear winner on 1st place. Even though it’s a WIN – LOSS thing — that will be in the back of their heads. Earlier in the season when Virginia Tech was romping before their demise — people were talking of a possible Alabama vs. Va. Tech — once again a rematch. We’ll know a lot more after today that’s for sure — I for one will be paying close attention to the Nebraska upsetter (this is just my opinion peeps) — the BCS formulates TODAY!!!!!

    Don’t know the word on Bolton. I do know for a fact that if team rules are broke — there is no room for error in Saban’s camp as you have stated.

  6. Adding to that — there IS room for error at the Meyer Camp and Chizik Camp — especially when you have the “Pat Dye” police force — yeah barner’s — I know I’m talking facts — oops — I mean shit.

Prattville got reemed,starting with the 2nd play of the game when the prick of a head ref called a ridiculous roughing the passer on a WR reverse pass.Everytime he called a penalty on P’ville he was overly enthusiastic with his “1st Down” proclamations.He was monotone whenever Hoover was flagged.Worst instance of referee bias I’ve ever seen at any level.

  8. Can’t wait for this game, I’m hoping Alabama wins and goes to the title game. But I think Florida is the better team right now.
