Alabama’s Trent Richardson gets some recognition. Here is the official release:

TUSCALOOSA – Alabama freshman running back Trent Richardson has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, following his performance against the Arkansas Razorbacks last Saturday afternoon in Tuscaloosa.

It was Alabama’s third SEC Player of the Week award winner this season and the second time Richardson was tabbed SEC Freshman of the Week. He also won the honor following his performance against Florida International on Sept. 12. Sophomore running back Mark Ingram was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week after the Tide’s win over Virginia Tech on Sept. 5.

The true freshman led the Crimson Tide in rushing with 65 yards on nine carries in the 35-7 win against Arkansas. He accounted for the Tide’s first touchdown of the game on a 52-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, breaking four tackles and outrunning two defenders for the score. He also added two catches for 16 yards and participated on the kickoff coverage team.

The Pensacola, Fla., native is second on the team in rushing with 280 yards on 38 attempts and is tied for the team lead with four rushing touchdowns.

Senior cornerback/kick returner Javier Arenas received honorable mention honors from the SEC Office as he recorded five tackles with three for losses, including two sacks, against Arkansas. He also added four punt returns for 59 yards.

The Alabama coaching staff recognized seven players of the week following the Crimson Tide’s 35-7 win over Arkansas on Saturday. Running back Trent Richardson and wide receiver Marquis Maze were the offensive players of the week, while Rolando McClain and Javier Arenas were the defensive players of the week. Chris Rogers, Tyrone King and Lorenzo Washington were tabbed as special teams players of the week.

Maze caught two passes for 88 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown grab that is tied for the sixth-longest reception in school history.

McClain won his third player of the week award after contributing five tackles and a TFL in the 35-7 win over the Razorbacks. McClain registered four solo tackles as the Hogs could only muster 63 rushing yards. Arenas spent most of Saturday in the Arkansas backfield with three tackles for loss (-25), including a career-high two sacks (-21). He finished with four total tackles.

Washington received special teams honors for his third-quarter blocked punt that led to another Tide touchdown. King and Rogers are stalwarts for Alabama on special teams. Rogers made three special teams’ tackles and added an assisted tackle while excelling in his assignments.
