The Alabama Crimson Tide football team practiced inside Wednesday afternoon due to fear of lightning in the area. Alabama coach Nick Saban said a lightning strike while at Miami convinced him of the danger.

“When they tell me there is lightning around now, we are hauling ass,” Saban said.

Alabama Crimson Tide football players Julio Jones, Kenny Bell and Roy Upchurch dressed out today, but did not do much beyond rehab work, Saban said.

“If those guys can’t practice tomorrow then they probably won’t be able to play in the game,” Alabama football coach Nick Saban said. “I’m not saying that we have a hard and fast rule that if a guy does not practice on Thursday he doesn’t play in the game, but it is a pretty good rule of thumb that if a guy has been out and can’t get back by Thursday’s practice that he is probably not going to be ready to play in the game. And even if he is physically ready to play in the game, then he probably is not really prepared to play in the game.”

Saban said practice this week has been better, and the players have done better in their preparation. “I’ve been pleased with what we have done this week,” Saban said. “We practiced really well this week.”
