Kansas City appears in chaos as the NFL season nears. Matt Cassel is injured and could be out 2-4 weeks, according to the AP (report embedded below). This means former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Brodie Croyle could start in the season opener for the Chiefs. And if the Chiefs weren’t facing enough problems, the offensive coordinator was fired. Chan Gaily is out now and the coach will take over calling plays. According to the AP, “Cassel injured his knee in Saturday night’s preseason loss to Seattle and the Chiefs may be down to Croyle and Thigpen, who between them are 1-18 as NFL starters. Haley refused to breathe a word about the status of Cassel or any of his other injured starters. But Yahoo! Sports, citing a source in the organization, reported he sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee and could miss two to four weeks.”

And what did Croyle have to say about this?

“It’s unfortunate for Matt,” Croyle said. “Who knows the timetable when he’ll be back? If it comes time to go, I’ll just have to be ready.”
