Attention Lane Kiffin and Gene Chizik! Secondary violations matter.

The spin coming out of Knoxville and Auburn over the last few months was all about how secondary recruiting violations don’t matter. Someone disagrees with that. His name is Mike Slive.

“We understand the perception that we’ve read about that a coach may make a risk/reward analysis with regard to secondary violations, especially in recruiting,” Slive said. “In doing this, a coach would decide to take the risk of committing a violation because of the perceived reward of increased leverage with a prospect makes the risk seem worthwhile.

“As we told our coaches earlier this week in our SEC new coaches orientation program, any time any time they commit a secondary violation, they place themselves, their program, and the institution and the prospect at risk. The risk may be lost recruiting opportunities, lost ability to interact with prospects, and additional scrutiny for themselves and their program.”

Lest anyone mistake this for tough talk, there is a serious level of enforcement for minor violations.

“To help you understand the treatment of secondary violations by the SEC, the following represent some of the actions taken in response to secondary violations. An entire coaching staff has lost the ability to make recruiting telephone calls for an extended period of time,” Slive said. “Coaches have been prevented from participating in all off campus recruiting activities. Institutions have been prevented from having any recruiting contact with prospects for an extended period of time. And teams have lost practice opportunities.”

Everyone knows secondary violations happen at all programs, but some teams have embraced the concept. Does anyone remember a pep rally at Auburn? Violations like that weren’t accidents. When you invite the media, it shows intent.

And Slive addressed that.

“Included in the manual is a definition of secondary violations which states that a secondary violation is, and I quote, isolated or inadvertent in nature, provides or is intended to provide only a minimal recruiting, competitive, or other advantage, and does not include any significant recruiting inducement or extra benefit,” Slive said.

And he said more, “A key aspect of our review of ‘secondarys’ is to determine if there’s a pattern beginning to emerge at an institution, within a sport or around a particular individual, be it coach, administrator or prospect. When trends are detected, the penalties and corrective actions become more severe.”

Get that Tennessee fans? Kiffin might want to obey the rules before the conference hammers him. What about that Auburn fans? Still feel so good about those intentional secondary violations?

  1. Cap….You do know that The Saban had SEVERAL secondary violations in his first year , right ? But that O.K. isnt it? After all, its different when its your coach.

    You are such a hypocrite.

  2. I’m not a hypocrite. I think it is fine to have secondary violations–they happen to all schools and coaches including Meyer, Saban, Richt and Spurrier. However, I think what Kiffin at UT and whoever is running Auburn have engaged in really are pushing the boundary of “secondary”, and I think you can read that into Slive’s comments. He defines secondary, and then outlines when the conference looks for patterns or attitudes indicating a disregard for the rules.

Tell me that isn’t directed at Knoxville and Auburn?

  3. A pep rally where a coach is announcing recruits names, Aubie and uniformed police show up is not an impromptu affair. That’s what Slive is referring to. The barn is desperate and it’s going to cost them in the long run.

  4. But really isnt ALL SECONDARY violations really PUSHING BOUNDARY?
It should really just be one way or the other no well you can kinda do this but you might wanna be easy over here and then change what is or what isnt hell its confusing just thinkin about it. I Hope OUR Coach learned his lesson …..

  5. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: The greatest gift Auburn received was Lane Kiffin. Without him, the attention would still be on Auburn’s 5-19 goob of a head coach. Cheezhick is an absolute B.S.’er, and wakes up everyday in disbelief of the good fortune that Auburn’s stupidity has afforded him. I will belly laugh over each of the eight losses Auburn attains this year as his seat gets hotter and hotter down in the barn.

  6. And Slive never adressed the “Saban rule” when all that went down , right Cap ? How quickly you forget.

  7. If I’m not mistaken, the bump and run thing that caused the ‘Saban Rule’ was not a specific violation. It was a loophole that the NCAA closed because of complaints by other coaches. He was simply out-smarting them.

  8. He was bending the rules. Not conveniently exploiting a loophole. A pre existing rule was already in place that kept coaches from talking to recruits during the off period. Saban would “accidentally” run into them about 4 or 5 times a year. Blatant cheating is what it was.

By the way, has Auburn self reported to, or been accused by the NCAA in the whole “Big Cat” weekend ? NO, they davent. At least not yet. Tennessee has self reported some secondary violations , but not Auburn. Not that it is that big a deal. If we do , then we do . But Cap, your header was quite a stretch dont you think ? Slive was speaking to Chizik ? Come on. If he wanted to send a message, they would have recieved a secondary violation. Like Saban did a couple years ago. Twice.

  9. Umm, Auburn said via its Pravda that it would self-report the Big Cat Weekend.

So yeah, they admitted they cheated.

  10. The Barn. Only place where they have an organized pep rally and roll toilet paper and there isn’t even a ballgame. LOL. I’m sure Loser Trooper had his ball cap on backwards while he was announcing the names! Guess the young man from Opelika that just committed to us didn’t get his name called out. Chizik = Shula if he’s lucky.

  11. But have they done it yet ? uhhhhhhh, no.

  12. Oh, so you know? Auburn doesn’t comment on that and neither does the NCAA or the SEC.

Either Auburn is full of liars or they are going to report. You pick. 🙂

  13. How bout I just wait and see what happens before I shoot my mouth off ?

  14. So, you are saying you can’t trust statements made by Auburn’s athletic department?

  15. No, you’re wrong as usual! Coaches were not barred from campuses during the no contact period. Doesn’t matter if he went knowing he would probably bump into a recruit or two. He had as much right to visit a campus as you and I. Any idiot knows that when a coach the calibre of CNS is on campus, that the recruits will search him out. So who was really doing the bumping – CNS, or the recruits? You fu**ers were jealous cause the recruits flock to CNS and don’t even know who Cheeze Nip is if he’s not in a pimp-mobile playing Rap! LMFAO! RTR!

  16. No…..YOU are wrong as usual….Saban would talk FOOTBALL during the “bump” with the recruit.A definate no-no……And it wasnt on campus, it was at ohter sporting event and public events ….Hence , the “SABAN RULE”…..So until Chizik has his own rule you tards need to pipe down.

  17. Oh really smartass? Were you there listening to the conversations? I never read where there was proof that he spoke to anyone anywhere other than on campus or at the school sports events which is the same thing! I defy you to show proof! You trying to say he didn’t have a constitutional right to be in those places? What a crock of shit anyway! Next the asshole NZAA will lock all the coaches in their homes and take away their phones! Yes it was a loophole dummy! If it had been clearly covered by an existing rule – then all they would have done is begin enforcing it. They wouldn’t have had to make a specific interpretation and give it CNS’s name! Get a life Barner! Let’s see – CNS was on the cover of S.I., the cover of Forbes, Voted the most powerful coach in America, Voted coach of the year, the first coach to do an undefeated SEC regular season since God knows when, and has an NCAA rule named after him! What has Cheeze Dip done lately? Oh yeah – 5-19! LMFAO! RTR!

  18. No jackass……Wrong again…..The Saban rule DID come about from SPECIFIC violations by guess who ? NICK SABAN !!! Therefore the name “THE SABAN RULE” !!

    Hello …….

Point is egg, you dipwad, is that your coach DID break existing rules by speaking to recruits about football when he “accidentally ” ran into them at “random” places……

For you to deny that shows your dooshiness….(new word just for you egg)…….

You will not here me say that some secondary violations werent commited at big cat weekend. All ive said is they havent been reported , or handed down yet.

Your coach is no different than any other SEC coach when it comes to recruiting. He does what hes got to do.

As far as facts to back up what Ive said, Im sure some of your Crimson Necked buddies remember all of this. Im too lazy to look it up, but I can guarantee you , its there.

  19. I hope none of you guys have a high blood pressure (I DO)…… All of these guys cheat and according to my calculations they make WAY TO MUCH MONEY! You cannot argue that these guys SHOULD be making in most cases 5 to 10 times more than a Professor that will lead WAY MORE YOUNG PEOPLE to a successful career. Sorry I had to! As far as the cheating goes THEY ALL DO IT!!!! Anyone who doesnt beleive that is DELUSIONAL. Ya see I will admit EVERY coach in my life that had COACHED AUburn HAS CHEATED in one way or another. ITS HUMAN NATURE! Its human nature to pathe an easy way and to go around a stump instead of jump it! You beloved NS and all the coaches you love to hate CHEAT and will continue to CHEAT to make their selves worth that $MONEY$ they are making! Cause even you beloved CNS will need and edge at one point or another. The BEAR did and so will the rest. But of course thats JUST MY OINION!!!

  20. ATTN: He is talking about NICK dumbasses. Go look up the number of 2ndary violations “reported”.

This site is like a freaking WACO compound. HILARIOUS!!LOSERS
