Alabama Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban landed the seventh commitment of the 2010 recruiting class Tuesday afternoon when Ronald Carswell, wide receiver Westside High School of Georgia, announced for the Tide. According to Scout.com’s Andrew Bone, Carswell picked Alabama for several reasons including Alabama’s interest in college sports.
“It’s Alabama. They are one of the top programs in the nation,” Carswell told Scout. “It wasn’t going to get any better than Alabama. I like how they play football. They are the biggest team in Alabama. They don’t have a pro team. It’s all about the Crimson Tide.”
Rivals offered up a similar take from the Carswell: “Alabama just felt like the right place for me. They offered me early and showed me a lot of love. I was impressed with the environment of the school and the fan support. They take football to heart down there, and I want to play at a place like that.”
ESPN rates Carswell as a 78, and provides this analysis of the player: “This guy is a very good football player and has real upside as a route runner and vertical threat. He has more than adequate size and good top end speed. He is a very fluid and smooth athlete and a shifty, quick route runner.” (As always, much more to read on Carswell at ESPN.)
