Terry Grant and Greg McElroy led the way during Alabama’s first scrimmage of spring practice.

“I think right now Greg’s ahead of everyone,” UA coach Nick Saban said according to Bama Online. “… He has more experience in the offense, he has more knowledge, he has more experience, and that’s an advantage to him.” The Rap Sheet reported McElroy may “have taken a giant leap forward.”

The official scrimmage stats showed McElroy posting 22-of-33 passes for 214 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions. That put him ahead of all other quarterbacks.

According to the information on the scrimmage released by UA, “Terry Grant led the ground game with 63 yards on 18 carries followed by Jeramie Griffin, who had 24 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown. Mark Ingram did not participate in the scrimmage as he was sidelined by a hamstring injury.”

Saban said the team got in some good work on the passing game—something of major interest to fans.

“We have some goals and objectives for what we like to work at and what we like to do,” said Saban. “Today we wanted to make sure we ran the ball to kind of evaluate our ability to run block as well as play run defense. By the time we did 2-minute and third down, I think we got a lot of good work on the passing game.”

Alabama’s performance had Saban mostly pleased, but you won’t be shocked to hear him say the Tide needs more work. “I’m not disappointed where we are right now,” said Saban. “We obviously have a lot of work to do. I don’t think just work individually, but also collectively relative to the chemistry and relative to the vision of what this team wants to do.”
