Alabama confirmed Thursday that it met February 20 with the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions in San Diego regarding the textbook fiasco. The NCAA’s allegations against Alabama include the words “failure to monitor.”

According to documents sent to the school by the NCAA and released by UA, “It is alleged that the scope and nature of the violations detailed in Allegation No. 1 demonstrate that the institution failed to monitor the student-athlete textbook system and failed to assure compliance by not providing adequate NCAA rules education pertaining to athletics book aid to student-athletes and supply store personnel.”

Alabama’s response was to admit the university, “failed to adequately monitor its student-athlete textbook distribution system.” The University also attempted to explain the nature of the case, “In stating what this case is, it is also important to recognize what it is not. This is not a case of intentional misconduct by coaches, institutional employees or boosters…No one made a financial profit from the textbook violations—books were received or acquired in violation of the rules, but no one sold the books or materials for cash.”

Alabama also argues the school “discovered the violations through monitoring by its supply store personnel…”

One interesting item to note, the NCAA requested not only recent textbook activity, but according to correspondence between the institution and the NCAA, investigators requested textbook records as far back as 2003.

University of Alabama President Dr. Robert Witt made this statement, “Compliance with NCAA and SEC rules is of the utmost importance to The University of Alabama and our Athletics Department, and I am pleased with the way our compliance officers handled this situation. UA works diligently to ensure that integrity and a commitment to excellence are the hallmarks of our athletics program, and we appreciate the support we received from Commissioner Slive and the SEC, and officials at the NCAA.”

  1. Hmmmmmmmmmmm………Someone weems to think that it IS a big deal.

Where is Shane? You do know that he was the one saying that AUBURN would be getting a letter over Chette and be investigated.

    Wrong as usual.

  2. Oh yeah. Cap, it looks like yopu were obsessing on “class” over the wrong coach, (Kiffen). Looks like you should have been looking toward T-town , not Knoxville.

  3. Ballplay, what does this have to do with class over a coach? or are you speaking of class in the context of Auburn players getting grades for not attending “class” as in sociology classes?

  4. I think Saban is a stand up guy. Really. I do. Hes handling it right. he handled it right. Hes done all that is within his power. Im just being an a-hole. Its just kind of comical. Someone like cap blasting away at Kiffen and Tennesse. Then , quess what happens. BAM!!!!!!!!!!

    INVESTIGATION.

  5. BM, you mean that thing from 5 years ago regarding the Sociology Dept that Shane and some lady from the NY Times got in a tizzy about but the NCAA sloughed off as nothing?

  6. Julio, is this whole self reported thing about some players who are not even at Bama anymore letting some students use their books? Man, that is horrible, you will soon see the NCAA slough this off, as the players were suspended for four or five games then cleared to return. This has got some of you Bama obsessed sleazeballs foaming at the mouth into thinking that someway, somehow the NCAA will magically make Bama disappear. Guess what, Bama will still be at your house in November for your next ass whipping and Saban will still own this state and Aub in recruiting regardless of what the NCAA does, bank on it, just not with Lowder. Hell, Bama ought to donate a few scholorships to Aub just to quit making yall look so bad.

  7. Every Auburn fan this morning: Please put Bama on probation God, please put Bama on probation. We can’t beat them on the field anymore God, so any help from you would be appreciated. Amen.

  8. Way to use my words about Praying BB.. Its kewl imitation is the HIGHEST form of flattery and uat will be imitating last years team ( oh and 92’s) this year with the same Saban results, good bad good bad. But in your prayers and Shanes prayers you guys will win the NC this year! HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHA rookies..
you will be begging for JPW and SMith (hows is character showing?) to come back but alas the FOOTBALL GODS will smile not upon you. My pick for next years NC….. ??????? OL MISS!. I know im crazy, just NOT as crazy as you and your brood! GL I mean it! SORTA

    WPB!!!

  9. Well, Ballplay, you Auburn people haven’t got me fooled. I know where you all stand. And Omni, I haven’t copied a damn thing from you. But you keep on praying about it. This is the happiest day for Auburn fans in at least a year. Ya’ll enjoy it for what it is because you guys won’t have so much to beat your chest with once the season starts.

  10. Im not trying to fool nobody. I am hoping for the NCAA axe of all axes to fall on the TIDE !!!!!!!!! Hopefully you guys get the SMU death penalty. You do know they considered it last time , right ? With the reeat offender status you guys have, they may just go through with it this time.

  11. Ballplay, that is one sick wet dream you are having. But go ahead and wish for it. But it aint gonna happen. The only repeat offending thing that is going to happen is a repeat of that ass-whooping you guys took last year. Look for it to be worse this year. And you won’t have Tony Franklin to blame it on this time. You guys are 2-3 years behind the top tier SEC teams now, and it probably won’t be changing anytime soon. Hopefully you guys will have to hire 4-5 more coaches before you get it back on track. How long does Chizik have to beat Saban before he is fired?

  12. You know Im just flaming Brando. One can always dream cant they ? I doubt a lot will come of it. But who knows ? With the way the administration is acting maybe there is more to it than some think.
