Alabama has offered scholarships to at least six quarterbacks—none of them coming from Alabama. It is safe to say, Alabama’s search for a 2010 quarterback is going national. The Crimson Tide has offered Nick Montana, son of the legendary Notre Dame and San Francisco 49er quarterback, Phillip Simms of Virginia, Connor Wood of Texas (committed to the Longhonrs), A.J. Derby of Iowa, Terrance Broadway of Baton Rouge and Austin Hinder of Colorado.

Hinder told TiderInsider.com($), “Coach Mac said that he and Coach Saban had watched my film and they both really liked it. …Alabama likes my arm strength and that I can make all the throws. I’m not just a drop-back passer. I’m also a mobile guy, too.”

Hinder described himself to Rivals.com, “I am an athletic, pro-style quarterback,” Hinder said Saturday when asked to describe his game. “I love to drop back and throw the ball, but if the play breaks down I can also use my legs. I hate taking a loss.”

McElwain has been busy chasing 2010 quarterbacks. The Bama Beat provided news he had contacted Nick Montana. According to Rivals, Montana is most familiar with UCLA and USC being from California; however, it shouldn’t hurt other schools.

“I have been talking to UCLA and USC but I am not too certain where I stand with them,” Montana told Rivals. “My familiarity (with those two schools) doesn’t really play a big role in my decision and I don’t care if it is close to home or if I have been to a couple more UCLA games than wherever like Ohio State or Alabama… I am just looking for the best spot and the best situation for me so I can try and get to the next level.”

Quarterback is just one part of Alabama’s national recruiting effort, but it is the most high profile when names like Montana are in play. With the national scope, fans should expect more signing day drama. When you are recruiting out-of-state players, it can take time and a few breaks. It is hard to pull someone from across the country, but if Alabama stays in the running for some of these national prospects, it should make for an interesting National Signing Day 2010.

  1. Terrance Broadway is one hell of a QB.I have seen him play here in BR.It would be nice to see this kid in a BAMA jersey.

  2. Great to hear Bama back in the same sentences in recruiting as USC and Ohio State. So many years we settled for so far beneath where we should be. It is only a matter of time before we add that 13th NC. I vote we double Saban’s salary!
