Lane Kiffin was admonished by the Tennessee Athletic Department for two recruiting rule violations in January. The violations were reported by the university in a letter to the SEC and NCAA on January 26. What makes this funny is this was just days before the boy blunder falsely charged Urban Meyer with cheating. Kiffin was reprimanded by the SEC for violation of conference ethics rules in his public attack on the Florida coach.

Other than the admonishment which was made public Monday, there has been only silence from the Tennessee athletic department.

What does that silence mean?

It could mean administrators like athletic director Mike Hamilton hope the situation will just go away, but it could be viewed as a startling lack of confidence in the coach.

Without any public statement of support, it appears the Volunteers are having buyer’s remorse.

PFT continues to ask the question if Jon Gruden could be a replacement for the hapless Tennessee coach.

“But when a former NFL coach who was fired amid a haze of controversy is now creating controversy in his first offseason at a college program, and when another former NFL coach owns land in the vicinity of said college program, where he once worked and where his wife was a cheerleader, and where said other former NFL coach is actively learning the spread offense, we’re not necessarily jamming a square peg into a round hole,” PFT wrote.

Without a statement of support, speculation will only grow that Kiffin could be on a very short leash. That speculation will be used against the Volunteers on the recruiting trail.

Will Tennessee say something, anything, to show it supports its head football coach?

  1. Lane Kiffin came in and made a big impact on the team. I think it will backfire but good for them for having something to look forward to I guess.

Telling everyone you are going to beat Florida in the swamp and calling out Urban Meyer for cheating probably wasn’t a good idea though.

Here is the rest of what Lane has done so far at UT.

  2. Tennessee needed a shot in the arm. Yes , Kiffin has shot off at the mouth. But any worse than Saban, or Tubberville ?

  3. Ballplay: Yes, he is worse than either. Do you ever remember if Saban or Tubberville said anything remotely out of line like Kiffin has? Before he even coached a game? Sure Saban said something about a team he wanted to dominate, but that is not saying anything bad about Auburn. Tubbs said things and held up fingers and all, but neither accused the other of cheating, bragged about ‘stealing’ a coach, or a recruit. This guy acts like he is ten years old. He also went for a 70 something yard field goal with the Raiders. I will bet he will replace Miles as the craziest coach in the SEC this year.

  4. Yall were bitching less when Dye accused you of ot. And he accused Bama of it , not Florida. Saban with the whole Pearl Harbor / 9-11 B.S. after LAMO whooped that butt ? Yes. They have said much worse , than a half witted remark about Meyer. So again, where is this going ? Answer………..Nowhere.

  5. I believe Pat Dye had actually coached a few games and beat Bama a few times. Plus that old drunk is not even relevant anymore, as he is not a coach. He just looks stupid trying to protect the ‘Awbun family’ now. Nobody takes him seriously any more.

Did the Pearl Harbor reference really offend you? If you can’t understand what he was talking about you really are an idiot looking for a reason to bitch.

But tell me where Saban has called out another coach and mock a recruit when he didn’t sign him. Kiffin looks like an idiot because he has no experience coaching in the SEC. He didn’t need to give anyone any more reason to want to beat his ass, but he did. Are you getting jealous that Tennessee is trying to take Auburns place as the most hated rival? I know you guys need Alabama so it will make you look relevant, but don’t worry. Ya’lls ass kicking will still be just as enjoyable and satisfying as always.

  6. Brandy………You really dont realise that as good as last year was, that it still meant nothing , do you ?

As far as MR STAND UP SABAN goes. Did you not see the way he talked down to Rashaad Johnson ofter the Sugar Bowl ? Real stand up guy there.

  7. Last year didn’t mean nothing? It was the beginning of the Bama streak. Auburn got their asses slaughtered. And Saban hasn’t even got started good yet. Auburn has had to start all over from scratch. Auburn can’t make a dent in what Bama is doing now. Criticize Saban all you want too, but I will take his results over 5-19. I know you hate him because all your hatred is founded by fear. You know that ass whipping is coming again and it is only February. Ya’ll starting to feel the domination yet? You might as well embrace it and take it like a man. Karma is come to you Auburn people. Reap it.

  8. Get a reality grip dude. I can assure you that Im not “founded in fear” of anyone. Saban is all of 2 foot 4 . Hes not scary. I hae nothing against him. Ive often said hes a great coach. All Ive done is try to show you spastics how hypocritical you are. But its like talking to a turd.

  9. And you still didnt answer my question. I was asked to give one example of when the Saban disrespected a player. I gave you one. Not only do you choose to ignore it, but Im sure you wont even respond. Rashaad Johnson was a great player for you , and after his last game the dillweed disrespects him like that ? Cmon man. He deserved better. And we all know the message that the 07 players got sent. You dont win I do everything in my power to make sure you never play pro ball. Class is all over the midget. But he wins. And isnt that all that counts ?

  10. Bear Bryant chomped on his players asses in the game also. A lot of really good coaches do that. If somebody has got to hold their hands during the football game, I don’t know if they are cut out for it. But you are comparing Saban jumping on a player during a game to a coach talking about a recruit and his grandmother? You are an imbecile. You added the rest of the story on your own. How do you know what Saban does to help former players? I know he has helped a lot of them get to the NFL. But you are the wrong person to talk about no class. It is like the pot calling the kettle black. But I am glad you hate Saban so much. It is a good indicator of how much you fear ‘The Process” hahahaha!
