Lane Kiffin is the epitome of virtue on the recruiting trail. He would never do anything shady. Everyone else in the SEC is a different story.

Kiffin has complained about negative recruiting, and now has alleged that Florida Gator coach Urban Meyer is a cheater. (H/T the Rap Sheet.)

“I’m gonna turn Florida in right here in front of you,” Kiffin told the crowd at the Knoxville Convention Center, according to the report. “While Nu’Keese was on campus, his phone kept ringing. One of the coaches says, ‘who’s that?’ And he said, Urban Meyer. I love the fact that Urban had to cheat and still didn’t get him, Kiffin said.”

How long until Mike Slive is on the phone telling the boy wonder to cool it. Slive has made it a priority to keep teams off probation. However, with allegations flying all over the SEC will it be possible? Or does Kiffin’s performance today presage the SEC turning into the old SWC?

Kiffin’s bravado is reminiscent of another bold, inspirational leader of the Tennessee program, Phil Fulmer. They both love running to the NCAA, but while Fulmer preferred to be a secret witness, Kiffin prefers the public spotlight. Fulmer picked on an incompetent Mike Dubose. Kiffin has picked a fight with one of the brightest minds in college football.

In this fight, my money is on Meyer because I don’t think Tennessee wants its recruiting practices brought under the microscope Kiffin just put on Florida.

Update: EDSBS reacts to Kiffin as only EDSBS could. Love the special Kiffin logo.

  1. It will be interesting to see if all their coaching experience will turn into W’s or they end up like Ole Miss under Ogreron.

  2. Is it me or does Kiffy seem to like to try and get every other coach in the sec under the microscope?

I hope RTR beats the He** out of them alone with florida and SC.

  3. Or, maybe hes sick of people blatently breaking the rules.

  4. He hadn’t been in the league long enough to be “sick of people blatently breaking the rules.”

Name one rule that was broken?

  5. The one where the head coach calls the recruit. Kiffin was recruiting the kid at Tenn. and Meyer kept calling him. That rule. And I wasnt aware that there was a time limit on doing things the right way.
