Tide looked good in second practice
Alabama held two practice sessions at the Saints practice facility in New Orleans over the weekend. While everyone enjoyed the break, players were ready to return to work, Alabama linebacker Cory Reamer said.

Rashad Johnson said the first session was dominated by removing accumulated rust, but the second session was a very intense and productive workout.

“Today we had a really good practice,” Johnson said. “Guys pushed themselves through practice. And we had a lot of good things going as far as catching on to the checks we need to make and filling our gaps. We really looked good today.”

The offense is also heavily involved in prep work for the Utah defense.

“There is a lot of stuff to pay attention to (with the Utah defense),” Alabama left guard Mike Johnson said following Sunday’s workout. “They are very speedy on defense and very explosive. They will run through you if they can. We have to keep our pads down and play just as physical as we have played any SEC team all year.”

Nick Saban wins Walter Camp Coach of the Year
Nick Saban’s work on the 2008 Alabama Crimson Tide continues to earn recognition. The Tide coach was named the Walter Camp Football Foundation’s Coach of the Year. Saban becomes the second Alabama coach to win Walter Camp coach of the year honors, and the first SEC coach since 2004 when Tommy Tuberville received the award.

According to a release by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, Saban, along with major award winners – 2008 Player of the Year Colt McCoy (Texas) and former NFL stars Tim Brown, Morten Andersen and Len Dawson – and members of the Walter Camp All-America team will be honored at the organization’s national awards banquet on Saturday, January 17, at the Yale University Commons in New Haven.

Tide players enjoy New Orleans
Alabama players enjoyed a Saints game amidst Sugar Bowl prep. Rashad Johnson said viewing the Saints game was a “good experience.”

“A lot of guys had never been to an NFL game,” Johnson said. “It was my first one. So, it was exciting.”

Johnson also said the environment wasn’t as consistently loud as a “college environment.”
