While it’s bad news for Iowa State that its here today and gone tomorrow head coach of the past two seasons was a titanic failure and colossal bust, it’s good news that the decision makers at Auburn can’t count and have unburdened Iowa State of its most unprepared, overmatched and incompetent head coach of the modern era

However, the opinion seems to be shared by most Auburn fans as the reaction around the Internet and in person has universally blasted the hiring.

Awful Announcing heaped scorn on the Chizik to Auburn move.

Auburn fans don’t get to laugh at Tennessee for hiring Lane Kiffin after this is made official. At least there is a semblance of upside for Kiffykins. I don’t know how Auburn can spin this, and let’s set the O/U on Jacobs and booster Bobby Lowder trying to secretly lure another coach a la the Petrino jet scandal at 2 years.

A return to the Pat Dye era?
One point boiling up from coaching circles and reported by The Gold Mine is that Chizik’s Auburn staff likely would contain former Auburn players. Does this signal a return to the Pat Dye influence over the program? It’ll be interesting to see the names who comprise the staff.

  1. I hunted down Pat Dye this afternoon to get his take on the Chizak hiring and got the chance to ask him several questions.

    SICG….Wow Coach you look like you might have gained a few pounds. And correct me if I am wrong but have you been drinking Aqua Velva?

    Dye: Aqua Velva? You mean you can drink that? I knew you could drink Brute 44….
    Lets just keep this our little secret…(makes drinking gesture and winks)

    Coach what is your take on this whole hiring scenario that is playing out in Lee County as we speak.

    DYE: Who are they hiring?

    SICG:
    A new head football Coach.

    DYE: Does this mean I ve been fired? Nobody told me I was fired.

    SICG; er… nevermind, Coach.

    SIGC: So Coach give us your take on the next leader of the Auburn Tigers football team and who it should be…..

    DYE:
    Well, I done already recommended that they hire Mr. Miyagi. But I dont think they are listening.

    SICG:
    Miyagi, uh… er… uh…. Who is that Coach?

    DYE:
    You know that little jap who taught Ralph Macho how to kick that guy’s ass in that Karate Documentary.

    SICG:
    You mean…. The Karate Kid?

    DYE: Hell, I guess so. I dont think macho is no kid though. He is more like an annoying little yankee jew, with that whiney nasal twang that makes me wanna kick someone in the balls.

    Well..Coach Mr. Miyagi’s real name is Pat Morita and he died recently. He also played Arnold on the 70’s TV show “Happy Days”.

    DYE: I am truly sorry to hear that…
    But now that you mention it… Do you think that Fonzie fellar might be available to Coach football? After he wussed out he did pretty darn good against Jerry Reed’s team down there in Louisiana at the Bourbon Bowl. It would be a real image boost for the folks down here on the plains if we could get him.

    SICG: uh….okay…..Coach… I think I should be going now.

    DYE:
    Have you seen Chette, he promised me that we could be going down to the Church..(makes drinking gesture and winks…….)

  5. Make no mistake about it, the Aubies probably had a secret plan that fell through at the last minute. This guy is a ‘stop gap’ measure until they can get the guy they really want. Could they be stupid enough to fire Tubs when the coaching market was as bad as it was this year without a plan ??????

  6. The secret plan was Houston Nutt. He was the only other coach that was reported to have been offered the job, but he turned it down. War Chizik! This has the potential to get ugly. The dude has a 10 game losing steak going.
