Glen Coffee and Terrence Cody were added to the 2008 Maxwell Football Club Awards Watch List. Here’s the full information we were sent:

TUSCALOOSA – Alabama junior running back Glen Coffee and junior nose guard Terrence Cody have been added to the 2008 Maxwell Football Club Awards Watch list, the Maxwell Football Club President Ron Jaworski announced today.

Coffee is on the watch list for the 2008 Maxwell Award, presented annually to the top offensive player in college football. He joins Alabama senior quarterback John Parker Wilson, who was named to the Maxwell Award watch list in August. Cody was named to the 2008 Chuck Bednarik Award watch list, presented annually to the best defensive player in college football.

Coffee has been a mainstay in an Alabama backfield that leads the SEC in rushing yards (226.3) and touchdowns (14) this season. He leads the Crimson Tide and ranks second in the SEC with 118.0 yards per game this season. Through six games, the Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., native has 95 rushing attempts for 708 yards and five touchdowns. He is averaging an SEC-leading 7.5 yards per carry this season.

He is coming off his best game as the junior ran 25 times for 218 yards and one touchdown in the Tide’s 21-14 win over Kentucky . He gave the Tide a 7-0 lead with a 78-yard run in the first quarter. Coffee’s 218 rushing yards were the most by an Alabama player in Bryant-Denny Stadium and just the second 200-yard game in stadium history. In his last three games, Coffee has 58 rushing attempts for 466 yards and five touchdowns. He is averaging 8.03 yards per attempt and 155.33 yards per game.

Cody has certainly had an impact in Alabama ’s run defense this season. The Crimson Tide leads the SEC in rushing defense, allowing 50.8 yards per game. The Crimson Tide has not allowed 100 rushing yards in a game this season. A native of Ft. Myers , Fla. , Cody has recorded 15 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss this season. He has also added one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one quarterback pressure.

Cody has at least one TFL in four of six games this season, including one in each of his first three games for the Tide against Clemson, Tulane and Western Kentucky . He had a season-high five tackles in the Tide’s 20-6 win over Tulane on Sept. 6. He added one tackle for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in the win over Western Kentucky . His fumble recovery led to a first quarter field goal in the Tide’s 41-7 win on Sept. 13.

  2. The accomplishments of these athletes is even more impressive when you consider the fact that they don’t play 100% of the time. Cody regularly rotates with Josh Chapman and Coffee shares duty with both Upchurch, Ingram and occasionally Grant.
