By Shane from Centerpoint
Tommy Tuberville told the truth. As he sat before the Birmingham News writers and the rest of the media after Saturday night’s disaster, at the hands of the Vanderbilt Commodores, Tuberville made the weakest statement of his career. “We’re running out of players,” Tuberville said. Tubby sounded like Custer on the hill top right before the Indians finished him off. Do you hear the familiar sound of a jet on the horizon?

Tuberville pulled another first when he told The News, “I apologized to the team for not giving them a chance in the second half – we didn’t make very good adjustments.” How many times in his career has Tommy Tuberville apologized to his team in the locker room after a loss? Not many, if any.

Another interesting post-game admission Tubs made to The News involved an almost Bryant-like statement, which doesn’t fit his normally evasive conversation with the press after a loss. He said, “This one is my fault and we’re going back to work tomorrow.”

What has happened to the swaggering, laid-back southern gentleman who wins almost every time he rolls the dice? Did the “riverboat gambler” play his last card when he hired Tony Fanklin to run the spread?

Most of the quotes and comments after the devastating loss came from the players, leaving Tuberville as a man with few words. How does the head coach of Auburn University explain a loss to SEC whipping boy, Vanderbilt? He doesn’t!

The men who call the offensive and defensive plays had no chance to explain what happened in the game, because neither talked to the media. Sounds like Tubby stuffed a sock in Tony Franklin’s mouth. Rhoads hasn’t said much all year. He hasn’t had to. Why would he want to after Vandy ripped his defense?

The quarterbacks produced minus 17 yards rushing in 10 attempts, while completing only 10 of 22 passes for a mere 98 total yards. Very few teams will ever win a football game with that type of production at the quarterback position. Tubby doesn’t have a controversy – he just doesn’t have a playmaker in Burns or Todd.

Tuberville has made a living with great defense and an offense that plays to his team’s strength. The Tiger defenders have kept Auburn in every game this year. Last Saturday night in Nashville, they couldn’t hold on any longer. With the recent offensive failures it’s been more than obvious that it was only a matter of time.

Tommy’s demeanor after the game seemed resolved to some degree, like he has come to terms with the imminent collapse of an idea gone bad. How will he sell the news to the players, recruits, fans, and men who pay him that the spread is dead?

Teflon Tommy has been bullet proof for as long as any coach in modern SEC history, but the “big” boys may be out buying armor piercing shells as we speak.

  1. The problem at Auburn isnt lack of talent. At the moment its crap offensive playcalling. I say cut your losses with the 100 % spread and do what Auburn does best. Smash it down your throat running game. I wuld like to see the spread work. But it hasnt happened so far. Vanderbilt ran it well…Another problem at Auburn is the quarterback. Chris Todd is inconsistant. Kodi is our guy.

Shane, it’s amazing to me how you get these General Robert E. Lee County cockroaches out from under their rock’s.

  3. Litte Aubie’s leave Tommy Tuberville alone he’s a freaking Genius. After all it was he who hired the Genius of the spread offense, Otis. Don’t you little Aubie’s start back stabbing each other yet.

  4. I’m not an aubie appologist, but Vandy did swap to a QB that changed the plays that were called and negated what the aubie defence had prepared for all week. The new QB play was also great which didn’t hurt. The aubie offensive woes are what they are!

  5. Daddio,

I bet your gland VANDY didn’t put in their third or fourth string QB because the score could have been even worse. Outstanding logic! lol

  6. Wow. Shane usually tries to at least attempt to make his Auburn obsessed articles seem like they have relevance to Bama by making the occasional comparison. This time he actually didn’t even mention Bama. Amazing.

  7. playswballsinjun,

It’s time for you to tell us how Kentucky is so overrated and how Vandy is so underrated. You can do it. I know you can. It’s the barn standard to degrade others when their team is inferior.

That offense sure is tearing up the field. LOL. Ranked 114 in the nation or something like that. Enjoy your mediocrity because that’s where you belong. Always have and always will.

    RTR

  8. Are we seeing the waning years of the finger guy? I’d threaten to whoop ur a** auburn but with the way we ar eplaying our only chance to beat the crap out of you would be if you were rated in the top 10. Tubs may have given genius a whole new level by completely dropping you guys out of the ratings and then Bama will think they can take a day off (as usual) and boom, right in the kisser. Has scary possibilities…..

  9. Eduacator1….I hope your perverted ass isnt really an educator…..That is a scary thought. Now I wanna here how great Kentucky is. Ill tell you right now Vandy is average at best, and Auburn should NEVER lose to freekin Vandy, EVER !!!!! They suck. That being said, what is yalls excuse for sucking against Kentucky ? A game like that against a real team and yall woulda lost…

tmc1…….Do you still think TULANE is the stuff ? That mighty Green wave was the team that stopped kickass ARMYs 10 loss streak…And not only did they lose. They got slapped around to the tune of 45-10 or some crap like that….

Oh ,,,,Clemson does stink as well. Will you argue that now ? Yall have one good win against Georgia.

  10. Ballplay:

    #9 Clemson: 34-14

    Tulane: 20-6

    Western Kentucky: 41-7

    Arkansas: 49-14

    Georgia: 41-30

    Kentucky: 17-14

We’re 6-0, doing far better than you guys proclaimed we were. Enough said.

  11. Shane, Shane, Shane,

So nice to see you enjoy rolling around in the stinch of Auburn’s ugly loss to the up and coming, #13 ranked Vanderbilt Commodores. That’s much easier than rolling around in the stinch of Alabama’s ugly win at home versus the Kentucky Wildcats. I understand the way you feel. I’ve done the same for a number of years enjoying the misery that Alabama football has bestowed upon you. There is one huge difference though.

This is one game, possibly one season for you to attempt to belittle Tommy Tubberville. What you will never be able to understand is that TT is very sincere. He would never make the excuses that the Bama faithful have made over and over and over and over again throughout the “down” years, the “probation” years, the “turmoil” years, the “world is against us because we are Bama” years. You know, the time period that has seen you grow from a nobody Ice peddler to a hated/disrespected nobody Ice peddler, like a whore that believs she’s “hot” everytime some poor soul gives her a buck for a “Shane” job.

Beyond hype, both Auburn and Alabama are just a few plays away from having the same record. As poorly as Auburn has played all year and as masterfully as Bama has been, only a few plays here and there separate the records one way or the other. All the pressure has been on Auburn. All the expectation has been on Auburn. Noone has expected anything from Bama. The Vandy loss has erased all that and it all sits squarely on the shoulders of the Bama team. The only jet that is getting fueled in Auburn is the one they will take to Tuscaloosa in November.

Bama’s rapid rise to #2 is truely miraculous but then so has Obama’s popularity within the media and ignorant populous. It’s really come with no scrutiny or question. A win on a neutral site over Clemson, a team that this Auburn offense beat with only seven days to prepare. Media hype. A big win between the hedges in Athens to a Georgia team that had already dropped three places in the polls and now shows that they have a questionable defense. Media hype.

Point being, don’t be too harsh in your Crimson judgement of TT. Be glad Vandy’s not on the schedule. This “process” Auburn’s going through just may not fester and explode until November. Tommy should have appologized for this teams results on Saturday…he is ultimately responsible and can and will stand up to the petty scrutiny that will be printed across these blogs, newspapers and mindless chatter of talk radio. I’ll let you spin the fester and explode part into whatever you see fit but I’ll give you a hint, I’m not talking about the boils on your ass!

IT’S GREAT TO BE AN AUBURN TIGER!!!
    WAR DAMN EAGLE!!!
KICK ‘EM IN THE BUTT BIG BLUE…AGAIN!!!

  12. ballplay don’t get so worked up.auburn should have not got away from the run.do not know why they did but look dude we are 6”0and looking pretty good.just chill out because auburn will turn it around soon.there is more to life than football.i’m 51 years old and had a stroke about 4 months ago and found out quick about life.GOD BLESS ROLL TIDE WAR EAGLE

  13. Shane’s pain claims Georgia is overrated, how overrated were they the past two years they drilled the bum for a combined 48 points, I wonder how many points the spread’em o will hang on that Georgia d this year, I’m sure it will be impressive

  14. Ballplay,

The only thing perverted on here is the number of posts by barners. And when someone asks to hear something it’s spelled HEAR, not HERE. But then again it is the supreme literacy of the barn nation that uses that type of grammar.

Go to a barn website and drown your sorrows with the rest of the little step children. Mediocrity at its best.

  15. “Beyond hype, both Auburn and Alabama are just a few plays away from having the same record.”

And over the past six years, an inferior Alabama team, plagued with sanctions, injuries, and numerous coaching changes has been just a few plays away from beating The Polytechnic Institute.

  16. YO! “Shane’s Pain,” this business of “just a few plays away from having the same record” can be said of several teams across the Country. I won’t EVEN BEGIN TO NAME A FEW. HOWEVER, I will talk about Auburn’s main problem: YOU DON’T HAVE ALL THE INGREDIENTS FOR THE RECIPE! The teams around the College Landscape that run the spread successfully recruited to their needs in order to run this type of offense. Michigan is in the same situation. The complete scheme (offense/defense/special) should always be tailored to the strengths that the team as a whole possesses. The sad thing (if you’re an AU fan) is that your head coach obviously believed he had the horses in the stable to run this thing with some degree of success.

  17. Ballplay: There is no comparing the Alabama and Auburn wins, except the fact that they were both ugly games, Bama never trailed and, oh yeah, they won and are still undefeated, still ranked #2 & #4. But I am not going to rub that in too bad. I really feel sorry for all ya’ll Auburn people. Seems like you were mislead a bit about the spread this year. I remember when Bama was preseason #3 and had a similar year that year when Dubose was fired. Does Franklin stay after this year? If not, what about the offensive recruits for next year that have already committed? Dang, I really hate that for ya’ll. But it is really a shame for this to happen to such a nice group of people. 😉

  18. Shanes Pain:
You sir, are delusional. Please donate to the “Keep Franklin” campaign fund.
    Auburns process–“You’re Doin It Wrong”…
Auburns Spread Eagle offense has turned into the “WideSpread Panic” Offense…at least for the fans

  19. George…..Look at where they are ranked NOW , not when played……Gergia is top ten, yes….Clemson…Heck no. Not even top 25….LSU is top five. Vandy, they are top 15…..Again, you are wrong. I cant beliee I just said Vandy is top fifteen, What is the world coming to ?

  20. Ballplay, look at the bright side, Aub and Vandy are now tied at twenty wins a piece and yall are also both tied for sucking

  21. I want to know one thing: How many good wins does Auburn have? All of ’em have been ugly… the rest, well, THEY LOST THE OTHERS! You can’t hang your orange hat on Bama’s “good wins” because all of them except Tulane and UK were good. Bottom line ladies and gent’s, Bama has won all their games so far! Wasn’t it Tubberville who said a win is a win is a win and he would take a 3-2 score any day? I’m so sick of hearing people like Del Greco on the OD talking about Auburn is two or three plays away from being undefeated. Guess what? They aren’t!!! Bottom line, no matter how good the teams were then, are now, or will be in the future Bama is 6-0 and Auburn is 4-2. None of that shit matters. And “Shanes Pain” what do you think Tubby has been doing? You think Alabama fans make excuses, that SOB has been doin’ it his whole career. The master of spin ran out of them last Saturday night (as pointed out by Shane) and he knew he couldn’t spin his way out, so he did something unimaginable…he told the truth! And ballplay. I feel for you but I got some news for you…Kodi is just as bad as Todd. THEY BOTH SUCK. The sooner you start realizing that, the better.

Bamasux: if you see this, go back to Shanes “Target” post. I wrote something for your negativity spreading racist ass! Bamasux is a racist!

  22. UA4LIFE…..damn son, you may need to get some ritalin. So I’m a racist. If I had to guess, you probably think anyone who doesn’t vote for Obama has racist issues. Are you a relative recent transplant to the South? Just curious.
Was Saban being a “baby back bitch” when he switched out coordinators last year?

7 out of 8 soon to be 8 out of 9. Believe it.

  23. Bamasux: You are the posterboy for retarded Auburn fans. But ya’ll sure are fun to watch! Man I hope Arkansas blisters that ass so we can see more implosion on the plains! But look at the bright side, with the firing of Franklin ya’ll finally made the national news. Maybe ya’ll will get on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

  24. OK GLOVES OFF LEAVE THE ROOM KIDDIES>>>

SHane your the stupidest inbred bamma I fukn know

The men who call the offensive and defensive plays had no chance to explain what happened in the game, because neither talked to the media. Sounds like Tubby stuffed a sock in Tony Franklin’s mouth. Rhoads hasn’t said much all year. He hasn’t had to. Why would he want to after Vandy ripped his defense?

RIPPED ARE YOU FUKN BLIND? they no more ripped or defense than Kentucky Ripped Bammas
and then 2 paragraphs later you wrote

Tuberville has made a living with great defense and an offense that plays to his team’s strength. The Tiger defenders have kept Auburn in every game this year. Last Saturday night in Nashville, they couldn’t hold on any longer. With the recent offensive failures it’s been more than obvious that it was only a matter of time RIPPED HUH?? TIRED MAYBE!
RIPPED NO. AUburns Defense has NOT been Ripped YET SISSY!

    WAR POLYTECH ICEBOY!!!

  25. Bamasux: You crack me up. Everything you assume to be true is the total opposite. One, you are a racist. Number two I’ve been livin’ in the great state of Alabama my whole life. Number three, I voted for McCain in the primary and I will vote for him in the general election. That’s what you get when you assume things about someone. I guess I’m what they would call a “cultured” southerner. You just assume things that aren’t true because your concept of reality (“Soon to be 7”, “Bama fans come in two forms”, “you must vote for Obama”) is really off. You’re not the piece of shit I thought you were. You’re lower than that…your the nuts in the turd!

  26. UA4Life—What’s with this fixation on racism and being a racist? Sounds like you may have some unresolved issues. You must be suffering from “white guilt” and now feel you must over-compensate to feel better about yourself. Forget about how things should be, or how you want it to be, and YOU look at reality.
Anyway, back to football (I could swear that’s what this sight is about), Auburn does suck this year, and I will be glad to see a new coaching staff come in and rejuvenate the program. Tubs has had a decent run, but as with all programs, they eventually need new blood. That’s not fair weather, or jetgate, or wrong…..that’s reality. I do think Tubs has another Bammer win up his sleeve.
