Alabama beat Penn State Friday…in tennis. Here’s some info courtesy of UA:

UNIVERSITY PARK – The Alabama men’s tennis team took eight of 12 matches from Penn State on Friday at the PSU Fall Classic. Two of the Tide’s wins came in doubles action while the other six came in singles play.

“I felt it was a good start to the season today,” said head coach Billy Pate. “The seniors were especially sharp and, the quality of play among the guys who put in extra work this summer was evident. Some of the underclassmen were able to get some much needed experience and they competed well.”

The duo of Mathieu Thibaudeau and Dan Buikema that is currently ranked No. 14 beat the Nittany Lions’ Eddie Bourchier and Brendan Lynch 8-4 and Trey Walston and Creighton Blanchard teamed up to take down Chris Hasyn and Guillaume St-Maurice 9-7. Ricky Doverspike and Andrew Felsenthal fell to Jason Lee and Ryan Gormley 8-4 and Michael Jung and Houssam Yassine dropped the 8-5 decision to Jamie Cox and Jake Toole.

In singles action, four players picked up wins for the Tide in straight sets with No. 57 Thibaudeau winning 6-1, 6-4 against Lynch, Buikema topping St-Maurice 6-2, 6-4, Walston downing Toole 6-2, 6-2 and Felsenthal outlasting Hasyn 6-1, 7-6(4). No. 44 Saketh Myneni and Jung secured victories for Alabama in three sets 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 and 6-2, 5-7, 6-0, respectively. Despite close matches, Doverspike and Yassine each fell to his Penn State opponent. The Nittany Lions’ Gormley took the match against Doverspike 6-4, 7-6(5), while Yassine dropped a 7-6(3), 6-4 decision to Cox.

The Tide will continue play at the PSU Fall Classic Saturday when it faces N.C. State. Opening serve is set for Noon (CST).
