The Pensacola News Journal has a long profile and some video of Escambia star recruit Trent Richardson. Richardson is a highly desired back with a verbal commitment to Alabama, but holds offers from just about every major program.

Comparison to Emmitt

Escambia High coach Jimmy Nichols has a unique perspective to evaluate Richardson’s abilities against Smith’s talents as a high school running back. Nichols was the offensive coordinator for Escambia when Smith played there.

Nichols knows he has a gem in Richardson. But he, too, is wary of comparing a high school player with one of the greatest players ever to reign over the gridiron.

“He’s getting better. But is he better than Emmitt was?” Nichols asked. “No, I don’t think so. But after coaching Emmitt and seeing some of the things he could do, well, Trent is bigger, faster and stronger than Emmitt was. But he doesn’t have the intangibles and knowledge of the game yet that Emmitt did. But he’s working hard to get there.”

  1. Sounds like WE have a gem in the waiting. We need to hold on to this guy because I like what I’m hearing.

By the way, he must have “character issues” for two obvious reasons:

    1) Nothing was mentioned of his character in the blog–

2)–Which is the reason he did not commit to Alabama Tech.

  2. In three games vs AUBURN, Emmitt gained 53 yards. Who can forget on national tv emmitt on his hands and knees crying and pounding his hand on the ground at Jordan-Hare after losing to a team for a third time in a row that he knew he should have committed to. Escambia HS is #1. I say, Bring on Trent!!

  3. In a land overflowing with delusion and dreams, one man arose from all the rest to prove he was the biggest idiot in the land of all cows… “Emmit’s” gonna steamroll those Western Carolina rejects playing for Aubarn three years from now.
