Alabama returns to Two-A-Days
Alabama is under its third of four two-a-day sessions of fall camp. The Tide practice began at this morning and will return for an evening session. The temperatures are much more moderate than earlier in camp.

Julio Jones continues to generate buzz
Julio Jones appeared to be working with the first group of receivers today, according to reports. This follows on the heals of a strong scrimmage performance for Jones on Saturday. In the scrimmage, Jones had two receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown.

Saban also mentioned Jones during his press conference.

“Julio made a couple big plays, scored on one,” Saban said. “He had a couple of other opportunities and just needs to finish on those.”

As everyone already knows, Jones is a physical specimen at 6’4” 210 lbs. His size and speed make him one of the most anxiously anticipated players to arrive at the Capstone.

Speculation continues to increase that Jones will be one of the “8 or 10 freshmen” who could contribute to the 2008 Alabama football team.

Personnel update
Tight end Brad Smelley was in a no-contact jersey for today’s practice for injury reasons, according to the Tuscaloosa News. Smelley was on the only player sporting the black jersey in the early practice session.

  1. saw Julio in practice and man is he good. There is not a DB in the country that can cover this guy. he was making one handed grabs and really he made the DB’s look silly. This guy is going to dominate the competition. All JPW has to do is throw him the ball EVERY time and he will go get it.
The defense is not looking good but who needs defense when you have Julio.

  2. I think that if Jones remains humble and hungry, the sky is the limit for what this young man can accomplish….I fear that he will go the route of many other cocky wide recievers….All mouth and attitude , but no consistant game play….Could be wrong though….Well know in a couple of years.

  3. Roll blunt roll….You are out of your friggin mind son….I guaruntee you that thier are many defensive backs in the STATE that can cover Jones…..

  4. Injun Joe,

Do you not have a barner board that you can visit. You post more comments on here than any Alabama fan. Lil brother syndrome.

  5. Just because wide receiver is good does not make him “cocky” and “all mouth and attitude.” I haven’t seen anything from Julio from which you could draw those conclusions.

  6. Playing with a Indians balls is so jealous that Julio didn’t even consider playing for the Auturds, he wants to make himself believe that they have someone that can stay with him. Auturds always the bridesmaid never the bride.

  7. Name them, Ballplay:)

At least the ones who competed against him at the HS level anyway.

How many defensive backs and special team players could cover #4 after he flourished in his second season?

Then again, considering how much “high talk” we heard about Kodi Burns, you know, how he was going to literally steal the show last year, but it seemed he never appeared to make an attempt to, at least against MSU and NMSU. So, I guess anything is possible!

  8. Thats exactly my point NYC…I cant recall the high expactations that Auburn has put on some of our recruits…Greg Smith….That big 5 star O-lineman from Ohio (TILLEY?)……Tray Blaackmon….Ben Tate…..The list goes on and on…..Wait and SEE what he does. He may be the next Art Monk….Or not…And Ill gladly name a few….Jeremy Flowers, Dantione Hood, Walter Mcfadden, Mike Slade, Ryan Williams…Etc..

Bamaman , why would I be jealous? Julio is a tremedous talent. But , he needs to prove it on the field. Dont expect him to come in and have a 1000 yard year.. Its not impossible, but highly unlikely..

  9. Ballplay, the same reason I was jealous Tebow chose FL over Bama, he was projected and is that good. You have got to recruit the best to be the best. I agree it would be unlikely to put up over five or six hundred his fr. year, but barring injuries I expect to hear his name on the speaker more next year and more the next.

  10. Bamaman ,,,,He wasnt that good his freshman year….Great now though…! in one hundred pan out like Tebow did…Julio could be that good in time. Not next year though.
