As I noted last week, it isn’t odd for a website covering college football to have an agenda. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one to notice.

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier alleged someone working for a website covering Clemson had mailed recruits negative stories about arrests at South Carolina.

Spurrier renewed the allegations in an online article from today’s The State newspaper.

A day after accusing a Clemson Web site of negatively recruiting against South Carolina, Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier maintained Wednesday his staff had heard about someone “out of Clemson” sending packets to recruits containing articles about USC players getting in trouble.

I’m sure you’ll be surprised to know the two main Clemson websites deny the allegation.

And who thinks this pushing arrests stories is something unique to Clemson?

Every website has its own agenda, and it is foolish to think this isn’t a common occurrence. How long until the NCAA tries to label websites a booster?

  1. Even if they did tie the site to a booster, i doubt anything would come of it from the ncaa…Maybe some kind of civil lawsuit from another booster (I.E. Fulmers latest papers). I doubt that the NCAA would touch something like this with a ten foot pole…Look at the Reggie Bush deal..I think the NCAA is gonna distance themselves from booster dealings. Partly because of Bama boosters starting a precidence for fighting the NCAA through legal means. If nothing happens to USC after what happened there. I am afraid that boosters are gonna get out of hand.

  2. Clemson and Carolina are like Auburn and bammer. I live in South Carolina so I hear it all the time. They are always after each other. Spurrier has trouble with his kids and the law.. so what.. Bowden does too.. I imagine they both try to take advantage of the situation.

  3. for some wild reason clemson fans seem to do more verbal damage to south carolina than carolina fans do to them. clemson also happens to be the better team even though they’re gameplay is very erratic but i think that’s all because of the head man tommy bowden.

    Count this as my signature:

  4. The part that is interesting is the idea of a particular website actively recruiting against another school. I think most people are honest enough with themselves to know that the websites for their schools are a course in homerism; so I guess it is only another step to actively slam another school. I guess it will help the website though, as fans generally love to hear their rival slammed by anyone.

  5. The next question is when will Alabama and Alabama PolyTECHnic Institute fans reach this level? Or I should say Alabama PolyTECHnic Institute!

  6. Is this a fact, or is it merely finger pointing in order to gain an advantage over the other? If it is indeed a fact, then this travels far beyond crossing the line. It could be a fact, or it could age be getting the best of Spurrier?

Please keep us up to date on this scandal, Cap.

  7. I think Nick Saban is proving that if you are a good enough recruiter buzz wont kill you.
    I mean ….look at Auburn.

2007 “Nick Saban wont out recruit CTT “The closer” FALSE

2007 Auburn has the new and improved “cheesy Spread” CTT and Phil Marshall spin it as the recruiting coup of the decade. No results.

2007 CTT and Phil Marshall get the word out that Auburn will play with Freshman (if they are the most talented) in hopes that high schoolprospects will be lured by the prospect of early playing time…..No results.

2007, 2008 The auburn spin machine and CTT play up the streak of 6 in a row with print and hand gestures (during a patriotic PR trip to the middle east) that glorify the streak at every turn. No results.

And finally 2008 CTT uses character as an excuse for poor recruiting. And then turns around and says he doesnt use other teams arrests…etc against them as a recruiting tool (bullshit.)
Even if the Crimson tide are nothing but free booting scavengers, Tommy Tuberville and Co, havent been able to capitalize on it. No results.
And still Nick Saban is whiping Tommy Tuberville like a government mule in recruiting.
The Auburn spin machine could put out headlines like “Saban kills innocent puppies!” And Nick Saban would still be embarrassing Tuberville at recruiting.
If Perception is reality, right now Tommy Tuberville is impotent.

  8. There have long been rumors of websites actively recruiting or trying to hurt other schools.

When you look at some of the media in this state. Do you doubt it happens?

  9. I distinctly remember being made fun of, like a fifth grader makes fun of a preschooler, for finishing so lowly in recruiting rankings by the Barnies.

    Tell me what happened?

  10. George, it doesnt suprise me that you were made fun of. In fact, you are still being made fun of.

  11. I think he means you guys made fun of us for finishing poorly in recruiting and now ya’ll claim rankings don’t matter anymore. He does make a point. You’ve got some explaining to do Mr. Ballplay!! lol

  12. Amy…..Its called sarcasm…You see I found an angle to crack on the poor boy and took it…Do you understand now that Ive explained it?

Now , go iron my dam shirt…….

  13. Hey BallplayIdiot,
Thats no way to talk to a lady. Or have you been playing with BALLS so long you forgot?

You need to learn you come manners BOY.

  14. Bama Amy,
Is IT PATENTLY OBVIOUS I am minorly endowed and never had a date with an actual woman in my life?
