I didn’t vote Alabama to win the conference when I turned in my ballot at SEC Media Days Thursday. I didn’t vote Alabama to win the division. And perhaps the worst confession of all, I let my uncertainty over the Western Division overrule my gut (LSU), and I voted Auburn to win the division.

Why? Well, I’ve felt LSU would win the division for a long time. I probably still think so, but I let my concerns win out. I am concerned over LSU’s quarterback situation, and the fact I assume Miles will blow at least two games because he is Les Miles.

That could open the door for Alabama or Auburn. But I voted Auburn. My head overruled my gut based on defense. Of course, I don’t think Auburn is a great team, because of too many question marks, but the rest of the division sucks too. Other than LSU, and they have Les Miles.

Tommy Tuberville or Les Miles. If that’s the choice, I’ll pick Tuberville.

If you forced me to have money riding on it. I’d probably go with the athletes at LSU.

How I voted the SEC’s order of finish:
Champion: Georgia
Eastern Division
1. Georgia—I voted the Bulldogs to win the conference last season. And if they had a shot to play for the national title last year, they’d have beaten LSU.
2. Florida—Now second fiddle in the East. Learn to play defense again and reascend the mountaintop.
3. South Carolina—Spurrier is down, but not out.
4. Tennessee—Fulmer’s slide into retirement is underway. I see losses to all his major rivals for this season.
5. Kentucky—at least there is Vandy.
6. Vanderbilt—Vandy is back. Back sucking that is.

Western Division
1. Auburn—I’m still not sold on the offense, but I’m not sold on LSU’s QB either.
2. LSU—Establish a QB, and the Tigers will win the division. Provided Miles doesn’t screw it up.
3. Alabama—Alabama’s record will improve substantially over last season. You’ll see better QB play, and something resembling a consistent running game.
4. Mississippi State—I think MSU will be good again this season. I’m interested to see how the new DC works out.
5. Ole Miss—Nutt has some talent, but this is a tough division.
6. Arkansas—Welcome to the SEC Mr. Petrino.

One last note, I voted Matt Stafford as my choice for ALL-SEC.

Now that I’ve confessed, what must I do for absolution?

  1. absolution…?
You have to listen to Tony Franklin and Tommy Tuberville’s disciples on a constant basis telling you Auburn has won 6 in a row and soon it will be 7. Though we both know it doesnt matter until they reach 9 (which will never happen.)

  2. Cap is the real deal boys. He didnt let his homerism take over. I agree with you 100% on your western pick cap. Also on how it could go either way between Au and LSU. The main reason I like Au this year is cause LSU at home. That is a pretty big deal in this series. Who knows ? Just like phat Phil said yesterday, the year he won his Nat. champ. they were picked third in the east. Bama may supries, Prolly not a nat. championship, But its remotely possible for a division championship. The east may play out differently though. I think that if Fl. finds a defense, they could win it. But thats a big “if”.

  3. Don’t feel bad, Cappy. I have to begrudgingly admit that if Bama can get some good production out of some underclassmen at LB and WR, they’ve got an outside shot at the West. As an AU fan, I’m too familiar with watching a qb stink it up for a few years and finally breaking out with a great senior season despite having a new coordinator, i.e. Stan White and Jason Campbell. Experience matters.

  4. I feel the West will be fruit basket turnover. I see MSU only getting stronger especially on defense. As an Auburn fan, I dont feel good when others vote us up.

  5. For all of the Bmamers that talk all the “little brother ” and “shadow ” talk on this blog. I have a question. Why would the SEC media preseson poll rank Auburn #1 in the west by over a 2 – 1 margin over the National champs , LSU ? How can that be? Remember, no one respects us, right? Before I get the “Its a curse to be voted #1” crap. I aint talkin about that. I am talking about the prestige, the media and colleague respect that Bammers brag on all the time. And before yall say , wellll, thats cause Perriloux is gone. Remember by yalls own admission , our green Q.B.s will be our downfall. Appearantly everyone else in the SEC sees it OUR way…..Yall aint back….And we are right on top, where we belong. At least thats what everyone else thinks.

    besides yall…………

  6. Deep down, Tide fans feel Auburn is a threat no matter what. Auburn was still a threat when we were operating at full force. But no one’s willing to admit it because of all the hell you guys give us on these boards. Imagine what it would be like if we played into your little scheme.

  7. Great insights, Julio. Seriously, man. Thanks for the solid post. But I have to agree with Cappy. I just don’t see LSU fielding ANYTHING resembling what they did last season. Heck, they lost 2 games and still found their way into the NC game. I can easily, EASILY see Miles losing 3 or 4 this year. And I can see Auburn dropping one they shouldn’t lose, but then winning a couple they shouldn’t win. Basically like every year on the plains.

    Wait a minute…it’s fun being civil! 🙂

  8. There will be no western division powerhouses this year. It’ll be a close race and the determining factor as to who will defend the west will most likely come down to who wins the Iron Bowl.

Look for Arkansas to spoil a few beans this year too. Don’t underestimate them.

  9. Ballplay,
the reason why the writers chose Auburn this year is simple:
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally.
Anyone could win the west this year.

  10. Let me get this straight. You picked Auburn to win the West because the west is weak?

This sounds like the 60’s and 70’s when Alabama piled up SEC Championships in a weak NO RULEs league. The extra conference game did not hurt either.

Well you got one thing right, Bama is weak and Bama is in the West with UM, UArk & MSU.

Auburn does not need a crapstain like you to pick them to win the west or the sec championship. That is won on the field. So why don’t you do what most Bama fans do and pick UA to win it all and Auburn to finish in the celler.

A piece of crap can lose its smell and turn white, but it will always be just another pile of shit. Just like the Crapstain!

So like what, 6sownnow7 are you like the shakespeare of the feces joke?
    Is this really necessary?
I am sure there have been a few kiddies who have logged on and saw your tribute to half-witted ignoramus-style humor.
Now why dont you log in under another name and agree with yourself. Even though every last one of us knows you wouldnt post such garbage if you had any self respect what so ever.

  13. Watching sixnow7 and tmc smack talk each other should be a violation of the Geneva Convention. It has to be more torturous than waterboarding.

  14. “This sounds like the 60’s and 70’s when Alabama piled up SEC Championships in a weak NO RULEs league. The extra conference game did not hurt either.”

Excuses, excuses, excuses. Let me guess, we cheated to win nine in a row over Alabama Tech too?

In a weak, no rules conference, obviously one team, which was the Institute you envy, found a way to dominate, while the other, which was the Alabama Tech you proudly support, couldn’t win their way out of a potato sack. If the conference was weak, wouldn’t the same rules apply to Alabama Tech as well? Apparently so seeing how Alabama Tech broke the rules when playing catch-up with Alabama, and was consistently placed on probation.

Talk about a weak program, doesn’t it figure you win six games while Alabama was arguably one of the weakest teams in the west? What about the domination before hand? Please let’s touch base on the who’s weaker and who took advantage of that discussion. Pathetic is the perfect word to sum up every weak-minded Barnzoe and Alabama Tech.

It sucks to be the jealous, envious, humiliated, second rate wanna-be program, where fresh cow manure wafts throughout your backwoods college daily, doesn’t it?

  15. IhateGW
“It sucks to be the jealous, envious, humiliated, second rate wanna-be program”? Are you talking about Alabama?

Can I use this as a future discription of Bama fans?!

Oh and the cow manure references are original…if you were living in the 60s and 70s.

Also, are were talking about 73-81 seasons or NOW. 27 years ago? I was alive and I never heard any excuses. Excuses are for losers and that is exactly what you and 50% of all BamaNek have been feeding us the last six years.

Alabama and the mentality of many Bama Fans just can’t encompass the difference between the 60’s and 70’s to TODAY’s Rules.

Keep making the excuses. If excuses give BamaNeks comfort thinking Auburn fans feel unfulfilled with SIX STRAIGHT, then that’s fine.

and TMC1…all your posts are a big pile of steaming horse manure. I just can’t get the topic out of my head.

  16. That’s quite funny because I WASN’T ALIVE DURING THE 60s OR THE 70s! I was born in December of 1984 and I feel insulted knowing I’m spitting facts to a male (presumably) older than my father.

By the way, YOU brought up the 60s and 70s pun, not me. You’re the one trolling up our boards with typical garbage.

You winning during the weakest period in the history of our football program is not an excuse, but a mere fact. You’re too caught up in your given success to realize the truth, and that’s YOUR problem.

We had no problem winning in the 90s, so what do you have to say for yourself now, other than that was the 90s this is now, though the 90s were long away from the 60s and the 70s. Whatever you say I’m sure will be irrelevant to the fact that everything you say can be contradicted. However, any coach could’ve been in Tuberville’s position at the time of our coaching and NCAA mishaps, and at the least, equaled what he has equaled since 2004. After all, the guy was a nobody who had hardly anything and nearly lost what little he had until he emerged from the shadow that then buried Alabama down after their many mishaps. And needless to say he was a failure in the SEC until the point where he temporarily took Alabama’s place.

Don’t let your given success blind you from reality. You had a successful little stint, and even the legendary Charles Barkley seemed to agree with practically everything I said. That only goes to show not ALL Barnzoes are as delusional as you.

  17. 6dwonnowwhatever/ballplay/aka etc…
    When you say
“Alabama and the mentality of many Bama Fans just can’t encompass the difference between the 60’s and 70’s to TODAY’s Rules.”
Does “Todays’s Rules” mean we dont re-invent the past and forget the parts that remind of os the sucky team we had?

Another point to ponder. I love the shortsighted nature of being an Aubbo.
They constantly brag about Bo Jackosn and Pat Sullivan like it was yesterday and seemingly forget that Bama beat Auburn like a government mule during that time.

  18. By the way 6downnow7,
My big “9” is much more fulfilling than your average “6” is. It might be a little older but it still there. We Bama fans cant help it if we are naturally blessed with great stats.

  19. Ihate…whatever your name is.

Just because you weren’t born in the 60’s and 70’s doesn’t mean those periods didn’t happen, and that they weren’t significant to the history of college football, or our program. You appear to betray your own igornance by making a statement like that. I’m sure you’re not ignorant, but instead an incredibly intelligent 23 soon to be 24 year old.

You were instead born a month after Bama defeated your Tigers 17-15 when Bo ran the wrong way. There’s a memory for ya.

  20. When is the last time you’ve visited the Aubarn campus, 6downnow7?
If the smell isn’t cow manure, it must be that outdated downtown area covered in graffiti and rodeo fliers.
Or the smell of toilet paper covered in feces hanging from the trees, BTW a recent report was released that the trees are dying because of that.
Or it could be the smell radiating from that redneck student body after spending an entire day at an outdoor rodeo.
    Or the bovine research center.
    Or Wire Road.
Or the dead bodies coming from the ghetto on the outskirts of your athletic facilities.
Or even the many ghettos of Opelika.
I still think it’s the cow pastures, though.

  21. 6down, keep living in a world of false hopes and ever growing delusion. All The Alabama PolyTECHnic Institute has to live for are pricless moments such as these. You’ll never surpass the overall dominance we’ve placed upon you over the years and that’s a fact. All the dysfunctional backwoods Barnie family has to live for are streaks that oddly occur during Alabama’s weakest moments.

On a more sadder note, other than 2005, most of the games during your remarkable six* game winning streak have produced similar results in the end. The only difference is The Alabama PolyTECHnic Institute has heavily relied on one or two of our crucial in game mistakes to win by a hair. Keep in mind you’ve one-upped us throughout that that period in recruiting, landing more high profile and key players than us. Now, the tables are turning, we’re not just one upping you in recruiting, we’re flat out dominating you. So, memo to you, your inbred Wire Road trailer Park rodeo loving family, and most especially Tuberredneck, now that the talent is swinging in our direction, The Alabama PolyTECHnic Institute, you guys will have to find a new ingame winning method that doesn’t consist of relying on a huge turnover against talent of which you were far more superior to over the course of the recent recruiting years.

So keep the futile arguments coming, and the false hopes and delusions alive because you’ll be one sad Barnie in a severe state of depression when reality strikes you like lightening.

  22. Intheknow72, I hope you’re not implying I’m an Alabama Tech fan. I’d rather live on the streets than live knowing I support that uncivilized, backwoods, second rate farming community.

Please read and comprehend my response to what that myopic Barnzoe, 6down spewed.

  23. Sorry GeorgeWhater…I didn’t read far enough down. Sorry to insult you like that.

The most embarrassing part was me mispelling the word “ignorance” when trying to talk about another person’s ignorance. Now THAT was a goodie on my part.

  24. Sheer Darkness/IntheDark-
Rodeo jokes and cows? That’s original. I never heard that one. Your 50 something redneck daddies must have told you those. And last time I was in Auburn was when Auburn put number SIX on the criminal tide. Iron Bowl. Have not missed an IB since 73. I’ll be in T-Town for Seven too. As I was for 5,3, and 1.

And NYC. Get to your point son. I know it hurts, but writing a War and Peace EXCUSE on how Auburn was lucky to win any of the last six IB’s. Please seek guildance for inferiority complex.

And TMC, NO…You just keep your 9 to yourself. Its a shame your were not born or too young to enjoy those games.

I am done with this topic. War Damn Eagle.

  25. 6downnow7,

I was around for those games too.
and if you watched all the absolute bull whippings Auburn took during the real streak, and are still an Auburn fan you must be one beat down dwarf hearted man.
I enjoyed those games immensely. I spent most of them laughing wondering what juggheaded move Auburn would try next.
I enjoyed those games because there was almost always National champioship implications afterward. (I bet you wish auburn fans could say that, about their little 6 win streak.)
The best part of the games had to be the end when all of the Auburn women would sneak over to the Bama side of the stadium because they didnt want to be seen leaving with Farmer Brown the Aubbo clown.
Quick!!! log in as AKA/Redneck/ballplay and try to say something witty…

  26. TMC1…..What a nostalgiac trip down memory lane……How long ago was that?

  27. george w….Im 37 and cant remember but 1 Bama title…Not belittleing the other titles, yall should be , and are proud of them.. Football back in the 60s and 70s was a different animal. People had lives outside of the sport. It just wasnt as important then. We had a T.V. that looked like a freekin sofa, and it recieved 2 channels. No ESPN. No talk radio. In ways it was better. Money hadnt corrupted it, so forth and so on. In the modern da era of CFB. Bama does not have an advantage in tradition or in any other factor. Since Ive been alive… Therefore ,,what Ive seen,,Is better football played in the eastern part of the state , than the western part. While Bama has that 92 championhsip, We have 2 undefeated seasons. Go figure.

  28. TMC1,
The SEC in the 70’s was weak. If I was a BammerNeck, I would be proud of those days also. But, what does it have to do with today. NO one is knocking Bama’s feats of ancient history, only laughing at the Bama fans who think it matters Today.

The BamaNecks are the one’s who bring the 70 streak up ALL the TIME. So if you want to compare the 1970’s to the new century expect a little reality.
Only difference is TODAY’s SEC has six or seven SEC teams that are capable of winning every Saturday. If Bama can get their house in order, then there might be eight teams.

The 6 Streak is great if you are an Auburn fan. Bama’s paranoia and belittlement of the feat is not going to change the JOY. Our streak will end one day, but not in the immediate future. Hell, it may never end if Alabama gets the death penalty. But that is just a dream.

  29. Sheer Dumbness…..For you to say Auburn University is in a bad area is assenine. Tuscaloosa is a freekin DUMP. Auburn University is Auburn Al. a pretty , well kept little town.. Alabama University is located in Tuscaloosa, and it is a crime ridden craphole of a city.

  30. No worries, Intheknow72. It all happens to the best of us.

And everyone makes mistakes, even God at times. After all, he did create that magical piece of manure-land down in central Opelika.
