Alabama Linebacker Zeke Knight Medically Disqualified

It is now official. Here’s the release.

Tuscaloosa –– Alabama head coach Nick Saban announced Wednesday that senior linebacker Zeke Knight has been medically disqualified.

“Zeke Knight has been medically disqualified based on a medical condition that we cannot disclose due to student privacy laws,” said head coach Nick Saban. “He has had extensive medical evaluations by numerous physicians, all of which concluded that it was in his best interest to no longer play football.”

Knight played in all 13 games last season, starting 11 at outside linebacker. He was sixth on the 2007 team with 64 tackles and also recorded two interceptions, 11 tackles for loss and three sacks. Knight’s absence in the lineup, combined with the graduation of Darren Mustin and Keith Saunders, leaves sophomore Rolando McClain as the lone returning starter at linebacker in 2008.

“Zeke is a fine young man and we appreciate all that he has done for this program,” said Saban. “Zeke did a great job for us as a starter last year and, more importantly, is on track to graduate in August. I would like nothing more than to have him with us for one more season on the football field, but unfortunately that won’t be the case after consulting with the doctors and medical staff on numerous occasions. I wish him and his family nothing but the best. Zeke Knight will always be a part of the Crimson Tide family.”

  1. I remember how heart broken I was, when I had to write “Victor’s Victory” It still sadens me when I get that royalty check every few months.
I want to go on the record, RIGHT NOW, in saying that the “CoachTonyFranklin” spread @ CoachTonyFranklin.com had nothing to do with this tragic accident. And neither did the fact that we were
running a 300 play “no huddle” offense in 102 degree heat!
Maybe Deke could play if they keep a defibralator right there next to the Gatorade.

  2. It’s a tragic thing when an athlete has his career ended for him, regardless of the colors he wears. It’s nothing to make jokes about. And while you can’t blame him for trying to play somewhere, no institution can take the risk of putting someone’s safety in peril if they deem it too risky. My prayers go up for him tonight.

  3. The guy is my kind of people. He is going to keep trying until it kills him. Sometimes – Human Will can overcome the barriers we face ( Usually Dry River Beds). I say go for it Zeke.
Next time I stare at a “dump” in the Commode – I will think about “Coach Tony Franklin”. Too chickenshit to come up with an original Handle in my view.

  4. The school could have let him stay on scholarship, but I understand Bama had to trim folks from the roster. He wants to play, has one year of eligibility left. Hard for an athlete to just walk away.

  5. I agree with you Pluto, Almost every time I take a look at a dump. I think of Tony Franklin too.

  6. You’ll also think of him in similar ways after he turns The Alabama Polytechnic Institute in to the NCAA, which will lead to Tuberville’s immediate retirement.

  7. SHEER

Word has it that Franklin is quite the trouble maker, And he is the type of guy who spends almost all of his time trying to right personal wrongs in his life. Hiring CTF was the stupidest thing he could have ever done.
I can forsee the exact same scenario, …..Tuberville retiring. BUT I would love for him to hang around long enough to eat the can of worms he has been opening for the last six years.
