The Jimmy Johns saga continues to be laughable and sad. The guy allegedly sold cocaine in the parking lot of the athletic department.

And he broke NCAA eligibility rules with his dog breeding website. The website, jimmyjohnspitbulls.com, contained images of Johns in his Alabama uniform.

Under NCAA rules, student-athletes are allowed to establish a business but cannot use their “name, photograph, appearance or athletics reputation” to promote the business. Bylaw 12.5.2.1 states that a student-athlete will lose eligibility if he “accepts any remuneration for or permits the use of his or her name or picture to advertise, recommend or promote directly the sale or use of a commercial product or service of any kind.”

I wonder what the name of his (alleged) cocaine business was? Or do you even have a name for drug dealing?

Finebaum on the Johns case

We had no idea who this guy was
The pieces of the Johns puzzle outlined by The Rap Sheet.

Alabama’s linebacker problems traced to recruiting and bad luck
Bama Online examines the linebacker situation, and provides this nugget on why the position is thin this year:

the depth concerns can be traced back recruiting as well as unfortunate circumstances. Alabama’s 2004 signing class included just one pure linebacker – Marcel Stamps – whose career contributions were primarily on special teams…

Not much linebacker production came from UA’s 2005 class, either. Fanney was re-signed out of Hargrave Military Academy, but was again ticketed for defensive end. Reamer was actually signed as a defensive back and only moved to linebacker following a serious knee injury. Chris Keys was ousted by the Mike Shula staff for disciplinary reasons, Zach Schreiber left the team last year, and Huber was at linebacker for all of two practices as a true freshman before detouring to fullback.

The ’06 class produced two current reserves (Charlie Kirschman, Charlie Higgenbotham), and a third who failed to qualify (Labronski Hutchins).

Not Johns, but related to drugs and football

  1. Another “thug” bites the dust. It’s sad in a way, but quite frankly people like him are ruining our slowly decaying country. I’m also willing to bet he was fighting those dogs as well!

  2. Classless NYC. The man hasnt even been found guilty yet. He was wearing your beloved crimson colored jersey just days ago and you come up with “thug” bites the dust. Typical Bammer. Its only gonna get worse. I assure you that this #1 recruiting class will bring in more than just dog breeders/coke dealers. Send them to orientation, and watch them fall.

  3. Good question tmc. Myself, I don’t think it will, but we don’t know everything that will come out in the next few weeks and months. I could be like some fans and say hell yea put em on probation, but I just don’t roll that way. Sure, at times I have poked fun at certain Bama alum, but it has gotten to the point that the last 13 months seem like Days Of Our Lives. I bet Stefano DiMera is behind all this. Seriously, I know that this happens at most schools, but some people must not understand my point, in that it seems like something all the time at Bama, and it gets magnified on the internet, the t.v., and the newspapers. It is not just a black eye on UA, but this state, this conference, and college football as a whole. Maybe nobody is really paying attention. In this world and society we live in today, that would’nt surprise me.

  4. C-Bass, you’re a moron. What NYC said WAS NOT classless. In fact, I fully concur with him. He didn’t represent UA, he misrepresented us. So you’re basically saying we should stick with, A GUY WHO DISTRIBUTED AN ILLEGAL DRUG! We’re not talking alcohol to minors, we’re talking something that will tear a human being apart. Don’t get me wrong, I wish him the best and I hope and pray the guy straightens his life out, but as of right now, he’s no different than any other drug dealer in this country.

And you wanna say these kids we’re bringing in will only worsen the situation, just because YOU DIDN’T/COULDN’T GET THEM. Keep an eye out for those kids you stole from Jacksonville State/Panera Bread University, because those are the lowlife thugs who never had a shot, and never will; hence their drug abuse problem. And remember, these same kids are the kids that Tubby pursued as well, but for some strange reason, COULDN’T LAND!

  5. The money-hungry NCAA won’t punish us for his mishaps, simply because of “all the money they lost during the last punishment”.

Maybe that’s why USC has yet to be punished for their 1,454,867 violations committed.
