ESPN’s recruiting experts have a profile up of Alabama’s recent RB commitment Trent Richardson (Escambia High School of Pensacola, FL). Richardson talks about football and his family.

“We as a family never had much growing up,” Richardson said. “My mom [Katrina] always told me when you get an opportunity in life to take it and that’s what I’m trying to do. I’m trying to make something of my life with football and be the first person to make it big out of Pensacola in awhile.”

The evaluation of Richardson as a player is also instructive. He is described as a “violent runner” that has a “rare blend of speed and power.”

  2. I would definitely take Ken Darby as a sophmore and junior. I think people forget how good he was under a terrible offensive line.

  4. Recruits are all listed as soft verbals if they have any plans to visit other schools, a la, summer camps and official visits. He has stated he is very strong to Bama.

    “I had really started to bond with Julio Jones and Jerrell Harris,”

    “They are confident and committed to winning a championship. I wanted to be a part of it.”

    “I want to start hanging out with the other recruits and players because I consider them my family now,” Richardson said.

    “I also want to help keep Alabama’s recruiting going and get some other guys to come help us win a championship.”

    I hope that things work out for him @ Bama or if he chooses otherwise.

  6. …and too bad I know nothing about any Auburn recruits, because (a.) nobody cares so it’s barely reported, and (b.) you keep getting “character” players that no one has offered. I’m sure Samford and Georgia State can evaluate talent just as much as The Duck Hunter and the rest of the barn staff. But we bammers appreciate your taking such interest in us, but then again, everybody else does too. What do you barners have to do to get the nation to remember that football is played in Spread Eagle country? There isn’t a winning streak on the planet will help the fact that you just don’t matter to anyone but yourselves…which is why your only trophy still reads 1957.
