The Birmingham News released its ranking of the Top SEC programs of all time. Our verdict? A colossal waste of time. A formula supposedly balances things out—but any ranking that includes minor sports that nobody cares about, or probably ever heard about, is a joke. Equestrian, boxing and women’s bowling? Please.

One good ranking was a look at the top rivalries. At #19 was my favorite Johnny Majors vs. Phillip Fulmer. The blurb mentions how Majors compared Fulmer to Brutus. I find that outrageous. There is just no way you can compare Fulmer to Brutus. Brutus had some good qualities; Brutus was only a murderer. Obviously, Fulmer is much worse.

Arkansas loses recruit to La Tech; linebacker dismissed from team
Wide receiver Cruz Williams of Little Rock was released from his letter of intent. Williams cited the coaching change for his change of heart, according to the News Star.

“It hit me a couple of months ago — it just wasn’t feeling the same,” he said. “I thought Arkansas would be my main choice, but when I got there I wasn’t feeling the love, so it’s like, ‘What’s the use?’”

Petrino also lost a linebacker. Petrino dismissed Freddie Fairchild. Fairchild was arrested for misdemeanor charges of battery and false imprisonment.

AU promises physical attack
Offensive lineman Lee Ziemba promised the Tigers would be a physical team.

“Anytime Coach (Hugh) Nall is part of an offense, it’s going to be physical. Just because we’re in a two-point stance doesn’t mean we aren’t coming off the ball. It’s still Auburn football. We’re still going to run the ball down people’s throats, but we’re going to have a good passing game, too.”

Meyer brings in new coach
Urban Meyer is brining in an unpaid assistant coach, according to Mlive.com.

Cole Magner will coach wide receivers and special teams for the Gators. Right now he is finishing up the Arena Football League playoffs.

  1. In the fight for state supremacy, Auburn finished sixth overall and Alabama ranked seventh. Measuring the best program within each of the current 18 SEC-sponsored sports, the archrivals split evenly, although Alabama won the big three sports of football, men’s basketball and baseball.

just to preempt the backwoods barnies, who AUbsess over the university of alabama, before they get too far ahead of themselves and schedule a “we ranked sixth and alabama ranked seventh” rodeo.

as far as an equestrian team is concerned, of course alabama tech will top the list. anything that concerns farm animals and cowgirls, they’ll master anyone who strikes a challenge in that category.

    count this as my signature:

  2. What does it matter? The University of Alabama will always be the more relevant/superior school of the state of Alabama. That’s the way it has always been and that’s the way it’ll forever be! API is the Georgia Tech/Vanderbilt/Miami/UCLA of the state of Alabama. Nothing will EVER change that fact. Period.

  4. Did they survey the Sports that Auburn traditionally owns Bama in, like:
Drinking lead tainted moonshine, and cow dung flinging?
And did they factor in the “6in a row” Iron Bowl streak.?

  5. I love it! Keep the jealousy up.

Jim Lampley said it best, “UpTideDown”

    Clemson, LSU, AUBURN
The TIGERS are waiting to pounce on the little Pachyderms in Tuberville/Denny Stadium.

  6. Shane is a BLOGGER, let me be the first to congratulate you on Auburn’s latest crop of private school allstars.

And I have to mention this. Nice pickup on the kid you stole from LAMO. Guess LAMO must have a little talent after all.
    And finally……

Is it true Rodney Scott is decommiting to go to USF? That is like … what … 3 times in a row that Auburn has been smacked around by USF lately…? Let me see
    USF beat Auburn last year…(check)
George Baker Decommited to Auburn the day before NSD and upgraded to USF. (check)
And now Auburn is losing its top choice RB to USF. (check)

Lately CTT CTF and Lee Ziemba have all trotted out and said there was going to be a running game at Runningback U. By God they were right!!! Quality recruits are running elsewhere to commit……

  7. I am still laughing… Aubs it is a sad day indeed when USF starts clowning on you…..Bow your heads in shame……..
You guys told the truth when you said stars dont matter to CTT… he has lost two 4 star players to USF in 5 months. South Florida. WATCH OUT FOR THE BULL!!!
    ROFLMAO!

  8. There’s no arguing Florida being atop of the list. Alabama’s tradition has primarily centered around football, even though it’s hard comparing any sporting category to what our football program has accomplished since the beginning of its time, it still can be done.

It’s nice to finally see the B’ham News finally post an unbiased collegiate ranking.

  10. Eh… This is still a very debatable subject.

It’s always hard to outweight what teams like Alabama and Tennessee has accomplished in one sport alone.

I still disagree with the list.

  12. I would be more concerned with trying not to get my ass kicked by those “private school allstars”.

  13. FinebaumJunk?

There you go… You’re so obsessed about what Bama is doing. you cant admit that CTT has been publicly embarrassed by South Florida again.

  14. tmc1, That’s why we love you on here. You are so funny. I cannot wait until after the Iron Bowl and the long post you will write telling AUBURN to wait until the “Process” catches up. I got news for you, Buster Sabin will never beat Tubs at bama. Maybe when he leaves in 2010 for a Northern Yankee job. Wait and See.

  15. tmc? Go back and read your own post and tell me who is obsessed with who, little boy.

  16. This is too easy.
    Auburn is going down….
What kind of recruiter is CTT when he cant get Runningbacks to play for Auburn? Come on guys, if you cant be unbiased at least be realistic. Auburn is famed for putting Runningbacks in the NFL. You would think every serious RB in the country would at least think about a sure fire ticket to an NFL contract.
    And yet,,,fizzle,,,,,fizzle….nothing.
I honestly believe that for the most part CTT is taking whoever he can get to save face and buying time for his next big move to Tennessee. But he keeps forgetting, Tennessee already has a coach who can win 10 a season and still fizzle out when it comes championship time.
I will go one step further.
CTT was duck hunting cough.. cough…for a job in Arkansas. And you would think with all the money the WALTON brothers have if they wanted Tommy Tuberville to coach at Arkansas it would have been a drop in the bucket for
them to pay Tubbies buy out. Nope. They chose PETRINO.
Bama has sucked for several years. But things are changing guys, here is your chance to jump ship and be the first one in your neighborhood to say “I told you so” when Bama starts beating down an understocked, bushleague coached (read CTF) Auburn U.
Be a visionary! A forward thinker. Think outside the box! Now is the time to come to the Bama side and avoid the Christmas rush!
Just remember if you do it now you can say “I told you so!” later!
The tide is rolling in. You can either ride catch a ride on the $32 million dollar luzury yacht “The SS Saban” or drown with all of the clueless people who were too ignorant to fork over $50 for a life jacket.

  17. All that typing and you still have not said a damn thing that is true. Still obsessed with your daddy Tubbs also. LMFAO

  18. TMC, so Tubbs got one away from LaMO? They were good enough to beat the Crimson Turds last year. Have you forgotten?

Let me ask you something, TMC. How can players that beat Ark. in overtime, lose to UGA in overtime, wallop UT and take LSU (NC’s) to the wire, be the same players that lose to La Mo? Could it be game-day coaching? You have to DEVELOP players once you get them. Take them from HIGH SCHOOL standouts to D-1 COLLEGE studs. There’s a big difference between the two. Tubbs has already proved what he and his staff can do. Can little Nicky say the same at Bammer? He didn’t prove it last year. Shula was a good recruiter too, just couldn’t DEVELOP them.

Recruit on, Garth! But you better develop them when you get them or La Mo won’t be the last to beat the Crimson Turds!

    Fear the Toes!

  19. Warbird
    here is your answer.
Bama hasnt had very much size, speed, skill or talent for several years. Worst of all, they had ADD for the games that were supposed to be crempuffs.
It seems our coaches were recruiting far too many Private school allstars and 1A wonders. (sound familiar?) And it has shown on the field OVER… AND OVER AND OVER. How could you expect to put out a first rate production with second rate talent? Ask Steve Spurrier sometime.
CTF is living proof that teams can play above their heads one week and lose to Florida Atlantic the next.

I am not saying this as a Bama fan, but this is what any SEC fan will tell you:

    CTT has proved nothing.
Except that he can that he can get 1 SEC title in 10 years, Auburn has been competitive but it is #4 or worse in the SEC almost every year.
Now that he has a little in-state competition lets see how he does.
Beating Bama used to be a big thing but now everyone has done it recently.
