Bamaonline.com reported Alonzo Lawrence has been cleared academically. Lawrence plans to enroll as early as June for the summer term pending approval of the NCAA clearinghouse.

Lawrence, a four-star cornerback prospect, had his ACT score flagged and had been awaiting verification. In fact, Jones had been told Lawrence’s earliest possible enrollment at UA would be in July for the second summer term. However, with his ACT score now verified, a June enrollment has become a reality. If Lawrence indeed enrolls for summer school, that would also signal a green light from the NCAA Clearinghouse.

Lawrence is a highly desired member of Alabama’s signing class. Rivals rated him the #2 cornerback in the 2008 class. Scout rated Lawrence the #11 cornerback in the class.

He’s an athletic cornerback with great speed (4.43). He is 6 feet tall and 180 pounds.

Three Tide players top NFL prospects
Gil Brandt of NFL.com has tapped three Alabama players as prospects for the 2009 draft. Who are they? It might shock you.

John Parker Wilson, Alabama (6-2, 210): He will be a three-year starter for the Tide, and has passed for 35 TDs over the last two seasons.
Note: His mother was a cheerleader for the 1979 Alabama team that went 12-0 and won the national championship.

Antoine Caldwell, Alabama (6-2 ½, 300): Plays guard; will be a four-year starter for the Crimson Tide.

Rashad Johnson, Alabama (5-11 ½, 195): Led SEC with 6 INTs in 2007.

  1. Happy days are here again. Alonzo Lawrence is the “real deal” and he is one of the prospects that can walk in and give Bama depth. He is a seriously good addition.

  2. That’s great news. The kid is a gamebreaker.
For months I have heard: “Alabama may have signed a good class but how many of them will qualify?” The flaw in this logic is that every recruiting class has to deal with academic issues, not just the highly rated ones. So far, it looks like Alabama is doing quite well.
