Mr. College Football has reported ESPN’s Gameday is considering visiting Atlanta around the Alabama-Clemson game in the Georgia Dome.

1. College Game Day coming to the ATL? The folks at ESPN like to keep their options open and insist no decision has been made. But I’m hearing that the College Game Day boys are coming to Atlanta on Aug. 30 as part of the run-up to the Clemson-Alabama game at the Georgia Dome. That’s going to be a fun weekend of football around here. Georgia Tech plays Jacksonville State (and Ryan Perrilloux) on Thursday, Aug. 28. There will be plenty of high school football on Friday. Georgia will play Georgia Southern in the afternoon (I’m guessing) on Aug. 30 in Athens with Clemson-Alabama as the nightcap back in Atlanta.

I don’t have the stats in front of me, but this will cause a panic among superstitious fans who worry about the Gameday jinx for the Tide.

  1. Oh No! The dreaded curse….
I am going to make a bold prediction and say that Bama will win this game… Remember tide fans… You heard it here first.
I am banking that Bama’s off season improvement(and talent/depth infusion) makes them a better team than Auburn was in the Chick-filet bowl.
Also everytime someone says Nick Saban cant do something, he manages to find a way to do it. Unless something incredible happens the Clemson O-line will prove to be too big of a weakness..
    Bama wins 27-17.
Bring it on Corso. Bama is coming up!

  2. Conversly,
2008 will be the beginning of a backward slide into obscurity (for some local teams). I wont say who but any team name that rhymes with schmigers will be wondering what went wrong at mid season. So if your team’s name rhymes with Schmawburn Schmigers, or Schmelless U Schmigers you might need to start worrying…

  3. Honestly, I don’t see us winning that game, which I hope we do because if we don’t, we’ll be reminded from the Barnies that Opelika defeated them the season prior to our loss.

Anyway, this will be a crucial game on our schedule as a win or loss will likely set the tone for the remainder of our season.

  4. Hell may be about to freeze over because I agree with tmc on 1 thing….I predict Bammer will beat Clemson.

As for the Schmigers thing….Glad to see the Auburn is always on your mind!!!

  5. Don’t worry, bammers. Gameday won’t be in Atlanta because of you. And you don’t need to worry about winning, either — because you won’t.

Just get drunk and it will all pass quickly and less painfully.

  6. Thanks Kevin. What whitty repartee! I was beginning to worry that you’d missed a post to comment on.

  7. thanks Mike, Glad to see you keep up with your predictions and dont allow them to be coloured by allegiances.
(Just in case I just got out my Parka.)

  8. Alabama is my favorate team in the SEC but Clemson will embarras them. There is way to much talent on the field for Clemson. My blood runneth orange! That is all.
